Sad to have seen a few dead auks on the coastline recently, although seeing a razorbills beak so close up highlighted how it gets its name! The other auks were headless. I read the head is most likely to be predated as it’s the most nutrient-rich or this can also happen in storms.

Catkins & buds on a hazel. The male catkins release pollen & appear in early spring before the leaves. They look like little hanging tassels. The tiny buds with pink tips are the female flowers. Both male & female flowers grow on the same tree, just in different forms. #Nature #Tree #Spring
