Microscopy Monday: Mesothelium lines body cavities such as the abdomen, including organ surfaces. This piece was picked up when the liver of a dog was sampled. It looks a bit like a sheet of snakeskin. Normal liver cells (hepatocytes) in the last photo for comparison 🧐🔬#VetClinPath #CytologyVet

Tumour Thursday: Cell cannibalism in a malignant tumour. Cancer cells will do this to feed on other cells. If they eat immune cells they will also neutralise the immune response

Here's a Curschmann's spiral in a bronchoalveolar (lower airway) wash sample from a cat. It's a cast of a small bronchiole (airway) made from mucus and indicates bronchiolar obstruction. The other cells are alveolar macrophages, increased numbers are a sign of inflammation. #veterinary #cytology
