Cracking Down on Street Racing: Sheriff Marinelli and Rep. Duran Take Action The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is joining forces with House Majority Leader Rep. Monica Duran to support new legislation cracking down on illegal street racing, stunt driving and street takeovers.

Hwy 285 is already busy. Reckless speed makes it dangerous. This Friday, the JCSO Traffic Unit will conduct a speed saturation patrol to make the road safer for everyone. Tickets are real. Crashes are preventable. Drive smart. It’s what we do.

Seeking Information Samuel Wineland was recently arrested and charged with sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust. The alleged assault occurred at his home in the 26000 block of Golden Gate Canyon Rd., between 2015 and 2016.

Effective Friday, Sept. 19, Sheriff Reggie Marinelli has lifted Stage 1 Fire Restrictions in unincorporated Jefferson County. Thanks to recent cooler, wetter weather - and an extended forecast without long stretches of hot, dry days - restrictions are no longer necessary at this time.

Saluting JCSO Women on National Police Woman Day Today we pause with deep gratitude to celebrate National Police Woman Day and honor the incredible women who wear the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office uniform. Every day they protect, comfort, and serve with courage, compassion, and heart.

We understand that many students and faculty left behind personal items such as backpacks, bags, and phones during Wednesday’s incident. Those belongings have been secured.

There will not be another media briefing today. The family of the second victim from the shootings at Evergreen High School is asking for privacy. A photo and family statement will not be released.

UPDATE: The male suspect responsible for the shootings at Evergreen High School today has died from his self-inflicted injuries.

UPDATE: Point of clarification and confirmation, the male shooter from Evergreen High School sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound. There will be no further updates this evening.

CSI: Pond Edition Our JCSO crime scene techs can find themselves in some pretty interesting places. In this case, it was waist-deep in a pond, searching for evidence with metal detectors and sharp eyes. From muddy banks to green waters, they go wherever the case takes them.

Four wheels, two wheels, training wheels… even stroller wheels! The annual Leawood Bike Parade had the cutest convoy around. Our Traffic Unit deputies were all in, rolling alongside bikes, wagons, scooters, and strollers decked out with streamers, balloons, and plenty of big smiles.

Jeffco CIT Program Earns Gold for Excellence in Mental Health Crisis Response The Jefferson County Regional Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Program has earned Gold Certification from CIT International.

Our School Resource Officers are starting off the year without their most senior team member. Deputy Everhart was our longest serving SROs, spending 22 years with the students of Jefferson County, mostly at D’Evelyn Jr-Sr High School and the Rocky Mountain Deaf School (RMDS).
