Drawing the Avebury crop circle of 2021. Beautiful, hexagonal, rotational symmetry.

Hackpen Hill crop circle 2025. The quintuplets are referred to as the central mother circle and 4 daughter circles. The central circle, one of the daughter circles & the perimeter sit in a golden section ratio to one another. The design also squares the circle.

I’ve been commissioned to create some hand drawn outlines of the crop circles for a forthcoming book. This is the latest, the circle appeared at Etchilhampton in 2022. A fascinating Masonic design.

In session three of The Magnificent Sevens, we drew the Ackling Dyke crop circle of 2018 and tackled the complex process of constructing the box-spirals in its outer band.

Division by seven, after the late great John Michell. The beautiful thing about this method is that it uses the square (4) and the triangle (3) - which of course = 7.

Yesterday was session 3 of the Crop Circle Explorers course I have been running. The group members get to draw along with me in a live session. Here’s the drawing we did of the South Field 2008 crop circle. You don’t really know a design until you can teach it to others!

“Unity is proportioned as two is to three” A little geometry that’s been noodling away at me for a few days. The Vesica with double square (or root 5 rectangle), giving a third circle which finds the golden section. It’s a thing of beauty.

Bisecting a circle is one of the core skills needed when drawing geometry. This week I have been making these mini paintings to illustrate a PDF outlining how to bisect a circle using the diameter and radius of a circle and using compass & straightedge.

My painting of the South Field crop circle of 2008. I wanted it to look like stained glass. The geometry of this circle could be seen to symbolise the 3-fold nature of mind-at-large, or the godhead. Father/Son/Holy Spirit, Mother/Maiden/Crone. Here it is expressed in a geometrical flock of birds.

South Field crop circle of 2008. I’m Now beginning to paint in the ink sections. In my paintings the flattened crop spaces are almost always painted with black ink. This creates a vivid silhouette, but symbolically, it represents the unknown mystery at the heart of the phenomenon.

More work on my study of the South Field crop circle of 2008. Watercolour is now complete, apart from tidying-up at the end.

The oval shapes that span the width of the South Field crop circle is 2008, remind me of the Egyptian hieroglyph for unity - an open mouth. The geometry of this circle illustrates the move from one, to two and then three. The symbolism matches the geometry perfectly.
