The 2024 salmon stock assessments for Welsh and English rivers have been published today. Once again, they make for grim reading. In Wales, the salmon populations in all our 22 “Principal Salmon Rivers” remain “at risk” of maintaining their future populations. 1/4

Natural Resources Wales have today published its assessment of the condition of Wales’s Marine Protected Areas (MPAs). It is disappointing to learn that like river SACs, many of Wales’s MPAs are failing.

With Senedd elections coming next Spring, the progress of this Bill will also be a good indicator of just how important the environment is to all of Wales's political parties.

Today the Severn Estuary Commission reported its recommendations on tidal power generation. The good news is that it is against a barrage which would almost certainly result in the loss of irreplaceable habitat and species, such as Atlantic salmon, lamprey, eels and Twaite shad like these.... 1/2

The latest water quality assessments for Welsh rivers have been published by Natural Resources Wales. Sadly, they indicate the extent to which targets for 2027 will be missed. Overall, there has been no change in the % of waterbodies achieving good status since 2021 (40%). 1/5
