I’ve been sleeping on Turnstile. Their 2025 album has rocketed them to festival headliner status. I’m finally digging in. They evolved from hardcore to indie rock with a wide range sounds and styles. I’m reminded of The Strokes. If you’ve slept on them too, try this song and you’ll hear what I mean.

Get to know Automatic. Mix a little bit of ‘80s Bananarama, psychedelic synths, powerful bass lines and you get unstoppable indie rock. I saw them again last night in Brooklyn and every song was a banger. Don’t sleep on Automatic. This song in from their 2025 album.

Indie earworms, a thread. What makes a song get stuck in my head? There’s no one style, beat, or rhythm that does it. Sometimes it’s just a few notes, often it is the chorus, and of course it helps if you listen on repeat, like I did to this song by indie rockers Momma, called Bang Bang.

I saw Charly Bliss kick off their return to playing last night. New album coming soon. This band is so high energy live. I can’t get enough. New York audiences at indie rock concerts are the best. Also the concert was on a boat sailing past the Statue of Liberty. Super fun night.

I saw the Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs last night in NYC. One of the first indie rock bands to get my attention years ago, they are still going strong. This song is from their most recent album two years ago. Their music can capture your emotions and take you under its spell.

Get to know The Last Dinner Party. TLDP has new music out including this straight up killer rock song. Some people think it’s not possible for women to make rock and roll. If that’s you, listen to this and don’t call it indie pop. Great song! Great musicians and great performers.

I saw Men I Trust last night in the beautiful Prospect Park, Lena Horne bandshell in Brooklyn. Like the last time I saw them, they somehow make their easy-going catalog energetic and fun. Excellent guitar work, beautiful, fun night.

Get to know Wet Leg. They came from nowhere and conquered the world. Their first album exploded across the planet. New music out this month. Get to know Lucius. Led by two powerful vocalists, Lucius makes beautiful songs and powerful anthems about relationships and surviving in a complex world. Their new album features a few collaborations like this w/Adam Granduciel of War on Drugs. Dig into their discography, you’ll be well rewarded.

There’s no band like Sleigh Bells. Homecoming show in New York last night reminded me why I keep coming back. They are just one of the best live bands period. Alexis crowd surfed front to back to front. The Manhattan crowd was nuts. Super high energy, positive vibes, I can’t get enough. My 5th time.

Get to know Mannequin Pussy. Powerful, angry, wild, post-punk, upbeat bangers. I’m so glad I finally got to see them for the first time yesterday at @govballnyc.bsky.social #govballnyc. They’re not happy with “Christian Nationalist Fascists” or intolerant people. Are you? Rock on. Indie music.

This 4 day Kilby Block Party has been absolutely fantastic! Great energy from every stage! I’m just sharing one short clip from Real Estate. I’ve waited years to finally see them live. I loved every minute. Just like last year, this festival has great indie music & excellent, friendly vibe.

I decided to hang back for the headliner Beach House. They were the band I wanted to see most and did not disappoint. Incredible experience. I’m tired, but ready for day 3 and 4.
