August is a time when we take our annual summer break, giving our dedicated volunteers the opportunity to enjoy a well-earned rest. We'll be closed starting Tuesday, 19th August, and will reopen on 2nd September.

@plasticfreejuly have created this wonderful calendar of tips to help you reduce, reuse and recycle your plastic waste. At the Random Cafe we have 2 recycling bins & our volunteers gather soft plastics and take them to the appropriate recycling points at local supermarkets. www.plasticfreejuly.org

"Then and Now" From October 2020 to July 2025, our 'potting shed', as it is affectionately known, has had 2 of its three panels recovered, a new door built into the end where there was previously only a window and now a new door fitted in place of the original door.

Only 2 weeks to go until our Great Big Green Day for 2025! We're really excited for a busy day full of fun, games and create conversations about sustainability. Raffle tickets are on sale in advance from the shop or the cafe now!

The first of our fruit crops are starting to ripen! We use a lot of our produce to make jams, chutneys and preserves, such as our very popular sweet chilli jam and bread & butter pickles. Make sure you keep following us throughout the year to keep up to date with the progress of our preserve making.

Once a month during our Crafternoon Tea sessions the group join together to take part in a activity together. This month the group came together to create some colourful affirmation designs. The Crafternoon tea group meets from 12 noon every Thursday in the cafe at 24a Garsmouth Way. #cafewatford

As you enter 24a Garsmouth Way on the left you will find 3 garages that still remain. The garage doors were replaced early on & thanks to a previous Crowdfunder in the past couple of years the roof has also now been replaced. Thank you as always to all the volunteers who have made this possible

Another store cupboard staple that you will often find on our food waste shop shelves is baked beans. A quick internet search will provide you with recipe details. As well as counting as 1 of your 5 a day, 200g of baked beans can provide you with 10g of protein.
