Almost didn’t watch Stranger Things due to Pervading Cynicism, but I’m glad I did. It gave me closure that I didn’t expect and didn’t know I needed. Everything else can be shitty from here on out.

Metroid Prime 4 is my own personal Sonic Adventure

Holding fast to Metroid Prime 4 because it make me nostalgic not for metroidvanias, but for the bombastic story-driven FPS action games that nobody else seems to want to make anymore. I want to listen to Miles' radio chatter before all games become completely silent for fear of excess handholding.

The Switch 2 is a little reminder that hey, maybe a couple of things *have* gotten better since 2017.

Hoping an expecting a whole slew of unlocked or 60 FPS patches for Switch 2 games. It seems pretty obvious to me that it is just laughing at games that made the original Switch cower in fear.

One thing I haven't heard mentioned about Switch 2 that I really appreciate is that the cartridge slot is WAY easier to open, which fixes one of the most annoying issues I had with the original. I used to keep a small, flat card by my original Switch just to pry open the cover.

Finally beat Expedition 33. First, this will be my favorite game of this year no question. Second, I don't think I want FF to return to turn-based. I'd like for new devs to try new (and old) things. FF is all about trying new things, and there is clearly still a market for the old things.

The fact that Clair Obscur is kind of blowing my fucking mind right now feels more like a testament to lower standards or cynicism for modern video games than anything else. Games used to surprise and delight much more regularly back in the day, and that feeling is hard to reproduce today.

Yes I'll take the music from Nier, the menu graphics from Persona, the item upgrade system from FFIX, combat quick time events from Super Mario RPG, enemy design from Dark Souls, and oh, I guess Ben Starr from FFXVI.

I can’t explain this but Expedition 33 reminds me of FFVIII more than anything else. Just obviously much darker. Maybe it’s the uniforms, maybe it’s just that a good game will remind you of other good games.

Rolled credits on Blue Prince and I think I’ve seen enough. It’s great for puzzle game enthusiasts and probably has a ton of content left to do, but is a lot more than the average person probably bargained for.

Got caught up with TLOU season 2. As in the previous season, I tend to appreciate when it deviates from the game more than when it follows closely. I hope we get something on par with season 1 episode 3.

Not an XBox guy but gamepass is feeling super strong nowadays. Got Avowed, Blue Prince, South of Midnight, Expedition 33, and probably the Oblivion remake on my plate right now. The year of RPGs continues on.

Had what a decent breakthrough in Blue Prince last night. I’m not sure if the euphoria is worth all the failed runs and wheel spinning it took to get there. Also there is a book in the library that teaches you basic game mechanics that I feel maybe should have been more accessible from the start.

Pleased to learn that South of Midnight is the third strand-type game after Destiny 2 and of course, Death Stranding.

I might actually try Marathon.
