Scarlet Caterpillarclub (Cordyceps militaris) - RSPB Budby South Forest

Seems like peak fungi season has already passed... still a decent amount to see though. Ramaria, Tricholoma, Laccaria, and Mycena sp. at Rushcliffe Country Park this morning.

Took a little video of this sporulating cup fungus. Extra breeze provided by yours truly. I believe it to be a species of Geopora. I've seen the incredibly similar Cedar Cup (Geopora sumneriana) before, but the habitat - open grassland with no trees nearby - I think rules out that species as an ID.

I rarely hunt out grassland fungi specifically, so this was another first for me this afternoon after an impromptu stop at Wilford Claypit Nature Reserve - Mouse-Pee Pinkgill (Entoloma incanum)! Stinky little thing. A few waxcaps kicking around nearby too.

Day off today for a morning foray at Hollygate Memorial Woodlands, Cotgrave. Plenty to see, but I was most excited by the few different Cortinarius species present. Despite how troublesome they are to identify, it might just be my favourite genus.

Walkies

Another first for me today - Golden Bootleg (Cystoderma aureum) at Bramcote Hills Country Park. I was aware they had been spotted last week so was very glad there were still a good number of fruiting bodies still there.

Very happy to have seen a rather unusual species today at a site in Huntingdonshire - the Barefoot Amanita (Saproamanita vittadinii). I understand that there are only a handful of confirmed UK records of this fetching, scaly white toadstool.

Saturday Morning Bestwood Bimble

Found my first eyelash fungus (Scutellinia) today! Sadly, only microscopy can confirm which species this little orange ascomycete is (I don't have the facilities for that, big man) - perhaps S. nigrohirtula, given the short, dense hairs? Props to my father for his photographic wizardry 📸🧙

Just heading back from my first foray with the Notts Fungi Group at Broughton Brake Woods. 19+ species found despite the very dry conditions - including this rather fetching cluster of Turkey Tail (Trametes versicolor).

Friends visiting for the first D&D session of the year this weekend. I finally made use of my Heroforge crowdfunding rewards from years ago, so we all have custom miniatures for our characters now!

The Schwarzette is another fabulous G-Witch design. This kit was a fun and surprisingly simple build. Should have been given way more screentime in the show.
