From grazing to playful tumbles, calves are learning life’s lessons under the watchful eyes of their matriarch. Mara Elephant Project’s 'Bravo' Ranger Team caught this beautiful family moment in Ol Kinyei Conservancy.

MEP rangers experienced a first while recently on patrol in the Mau Forest; a monkey trapped in a wire snare. Working alongside our government partners, the monkey was freed from the trap. Snares removed, a life saved, and a second chance in the wild.

Elephants playing in the mud? Classic. It’s called wallowing, helping them stay cool and protect their skin. What looks like fun is actually smart survival, using mud to regulate temperature and stay healthy in the wild.

This bull is hard to miss—Flopsy Lopsy’s floppy left ear and missing tail make him instantly recognizable. At 45–50 years old, he’s been seen alone or with other bulls. MEP’s team continues tracking him across the Mara.

At Chepsir Comprehensive in the Mau Forest, our team engaged 74 Wildlife Club students in hands-on learning about living alongside wildlife. Together, we planted 50 indigenous trees: growing knowledge, restoring habitat, and supporting the next generation of conservation leaders.

#MEPMissionMinute is back! Following Edwin, we close our series with PROTECT. Monitoring and evaluation positioned rangers in a high-risk zone before he reached farms. With thermal drones, they guided him safely back to open land. Monitor. Evaluate. Protect.

MEP rangers spotted Individual #128 with a severe limp from an arrow wound and alerted the KWS / @sheldricktrust.bsky.social Mobile Vet Unit. He was darted, treated, and his wound cleaned. Follow-up shows reduced swelling, improved movement, and feeding—encouraging signs of recovery.

In Loita Forest, MEP’s ‘Lima’ ranger team & Kenya Forest Service secured ~1,800 illegally harvested red cedar posts hidden in the bush. Protecting this vital water tower and wildlife corridor is key to stopping deforestation.
