The Land That Time Forgot by Edgar Rice Burroughs (Ace Books 1973) cover by Frank Frazetta. This edition was the first Burroughs book I ever bought. I didn't realize at the time the cover art had been reused from another ERB book from Ace (details in the next comment).

Perry Rhodan #82: Atlan in Danger (Ace Books 1975) cover by Gray Morrow. The blonde-haired guy looks like he could be Flash Gordon, but I don't believe he is. I like how Forrest J. Ackerman got a nod on the cover for his participation in science fiction.

A Time for Dragons by Gary Gentile (Ace Books 1989) by Den Beauvais. First of a trilogy, never read it but it sounds cool: aliens who resemble dragons conquering the Earth. Sounds like it might be fun. Cover looks more like something inspired by Jurassic Park.

Thrilling Wonder Stories June 1947 cover by Earle Bergey. Don't know what he's getting zapped with but it doesn't look pleasant. The cover is for a story by Murray Leinster so it should be good. And Bergey hands in another decent cover.

Whipping Star by Frank Herbert (New English Library 1972) cover by Bruce Pennington. There's a star, and there's a whip, and that gives us a cover. The green makes the woman stand out and makes this a memorable cover.

The Wizard and the War Machine by Lawrence Watt-Evans (Del Rey Books 1987) cover by Darrell K. Sweet. Follow-up to "The Cyborg and the Sorcerers." Sweet does a good job with the space ship and the characters, he's definitely one of my favorite cover artists.

The Towers of Toron by Samuel R. Delany (Ace Books 1977) cover by Greg and Tim Hildebrandt. 2nd in the trilogy, also never read. I saw a lot of Ace books back then but I must have missed this one. Still has a decent cover by the Hildebrandt Brothers.

Conan the Buccaneer by Lin Carter and L. Sprague de Camp (Lancer Books 1971) cover by Frank Frazetta. First Conan book I ever read, picked it up used. I know people dump on Carter and de Camp's Conan stories but I liked it, and you can't beat the Frazetta cover art!

Galaxy SF Magazine April 1969 cover by Ralph Reese. At first glance I thought the cover was done by Wally Wood. Reese did work as an assistant to Wood in the 1960s so it seems there was some influence going on.

Reap the East Wind by Glen Cook (Tor Books 1987) cover by Ken Kelly. I've read Cook's Black Company and Garrett books but I've missed this series. Cover has a nice sword and sorcery feel, but that was Ken Kelly's specialty. I'll have to look for a copy of this.

Secret of the Sunless World by Carroll M. Capps (Dell Books 1969) cover by John Berkey. John Berkey drew some really awesome space ships like these. Capps is a pseudonym for C. C. MacApp but I'm not familiar with him or the book. Still a really sharp cover.

The Curse of the Witch-Queen by Paula Volsky (Del Rey Books 1982) cover by Darrell K. Sweet. I'm not familiar with Paula Volsky but I like this cover, Sweet did another winner with this one. I also like the Del Rey logo of this time period, really stood out.

Out of the Dead City by Samuel R. Delany (Ace Books 1977) cover by Greg and Tim Hildebrandt. 1st of a trilogy, never read it but I like the cover, shows that the Hildebrandt brothers could do science fiction as well as fantasy work which they were known for at this period of time

The Planet of the Double Sun by Neil R. Jones (Ace Books 1967) cover by Gray Morrow. A semi-accurate representation of the Professor Jameson story: only the brain of the professor is in the cyborg body but I understand what Morrow was going for.

The Cyborg and the Sorcerers by Lawrence Watt-Evans (Del Rey Books 1982) cover by David B. Mattingly. At first glance I thought this cover was by Darrell Sweet. Nice blend of colors, never read this but it sounds good. Can't go wrong with cyborgs, robots, and sorcerers.

The Right Hand of Dextra by David J. Lake (DAW Books 1977) cover by George Barr. This cover has a sword-and-planet/Flash Gordon feel to it. Nice cover by Barr, I like that creature, whatever it is.

The Ghost Army by David C. Smith (Zebra 1983) cover by Neal McPheeters. 5th book in the Oron series, I bought these just for the cover art but they're really good stories. I like how the sword is positioned, giving the cover an almost 3-D look.

The Four Wishes by Charlotte Stone (DAW Books 1983) cover by Boris Vallejo. This kind of cover makes you pick up the book. I like the severed head, would've been cool to see the headless body. First of a series, no other books followed it up.

Tark and the Golden Tide by Colum MacConnell (Leisure Books 1977) cover by Ken Barr. Another Conan knockoff. I'm not familiar with MacConnell but Ken Barr has done a lot of great covers and this is no exception. This could fill in for Conan nicely.

Maureen Birnbaum, Barbarian Swordsperson by George Alec Effinger (SFBC 1994) cover by Ken Kelly. A collection of tongue-in-cheek stories from Effinger. Kelly did a cool "barbarian swordsperson" cover. Background looks Frazetta-like, the woman looks more Boris Vallejo inspired.

Kyrik and the Wizard's Sword by Gardner F. Fox (Leisure Books 1976) cover by Marcus Boas. Kyrik was one of many Conan clones but the covers of the books were all pretty cool and this one's no exception. I like how his blade is drawn with nicks and chips in it.

Astounding Stories January 1937 cover by Howard V. Brown. Not sure what they're looking at or why that one fellow has a gun on it. Chan Corbett was a pseudonym for Nat Schachner who also had a serial installment in the issue; neither story has been reprinted in English since.

Analog Science Fiction - Science Fact July 1968 cover by by Kelly Freas. A great cover for a cool story about a supersonic jet that travels back in time to World War One France. I imagine the French had a lot of questions when this thing landed.

The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction August 1955 cover by Ed Emshwiller. Another humorous cover by Emsh, I'm not sure who is more surprised. Nice detail in the image, especially the city in the background on the left, a nice touch.

Star Probe by Joseph Green (Ace Books 1978) cover by Boris Vallejo. I read this when it was originally serialized in Analog. I like this cover and makes me wish Boris did more space scenes like this as he was really good at them, this one's no exception.

Abandon Galaxy! by Bart Somers (Paperback Library 1967). No cover credit; the ISFDB suggests it's by Jack Gaughan and I believe they're correct, looks like his style. Somers is a pseudonym for Gardner F. Fox.

Analog Science Fiction Science Fact April 1967 cover by John Schoenherr. Another cool underwater image, Schoenherr did a good job with it, it has an air of mystery about it.

The Deep Range by Arthur C. Clarke (Signet 1974). No cover credit, nothing inside or any visible signature, kind of a shame as it's a cool cover. I got a copy of this edition one Christmas, had it read before New Year's Day. Another excellent underwater adventure story.

Attack from Atlantis by Lester del Rey (Del Rey Books 1978) cover by Dean Ellis. Read this when I was a kid, my junior high library had a hardcover edition of many of del Rey's juveniles (along with others). This cover is quite nice, especially for fans of underwater adventures.

Perry Rhodan #21: The Cosmic Decoy (Ace Books 1973) cover by Gray Morrow. I never picked up any Perry Rhodan books but I remember seeing them in the book stores; not sure why I never did, especially with cool covers like this. Contents look pretty good, too. My loss, I guess.

Amazing Stories September 1950 cover by Robert Gibson Jones. You're certainly not going to escape from Mars, or any other planet, if spaceships slam into the side of a mountain! Those two better get out of the way of those rocks!

Galaxy Science Fiction November 1956 cover by Ed Emshwiller. Piece is titled "Strange Nestlings." I think a better title for this would be "Feeding Time." That fellow better do some fast thinking!

Planet Stories Winter 1946 cover by Chester Martin. Got a confrontation going on that appears to be interrupting a hanging! Looks to be an interesting story from Gardner Fox if the cover is any indication. Project Gutenberg has an e-copy, downloaded for later reading.

Last item from mail call: my copy of Blue Kendra by Ben Dunn came today with a foil cover and signed by the sensei himself! I'll be reading this tonight.

Also got my copy today of S. M. Stirling's "To Turn the Tide" from @baenbooks.bsky.social Going back in time to ancient Rome has been done before, but this one sounds good and Stirling is a pretty decent writer so I have high hopes for this.

Just got Sherlock Holmes: Leviathan, courtesy of Mr. Mike Baron. Being a Holmes fan, I think this will be a good read!

Red Sonja #14 March 1979 cover by Frank Brunner. Looks like Red Sonja's sword is going to get a workout with those things coming up out of the river. And if they are really the living dead, can she hurt them?

This is the Traveller set that I had (and still have it packed away). No fancy packaging but it got the job done. Was able to get a couple games going at the time but most people wanted to play either D&D or Star Frontiers.

Artwork by Gene Day for the 2nd edition of the Space Opera RPG (1982). I was a Traveller fan so I never played Space Opera, but the cover art was certainly better than what Traveller offered.

The Napoleons of Eridanus by Pierre Barbet (DAW Books 1976) cover by Karel Thole. The concept of aliens kidnapping Earth soldiers, in this case French under Napoleon, to fight for them wasn't new but it was a good take on the theme and the cover is pretty cool.

Drunkard's Walk by Frederik Pohl (Ballantine Books 1969) cover by Robert Foster. This cover is certainly a product of its era, having a 1960s psychedelia feel to it but a lot of book covers did back then.

Dynamic Science Fiction January 1954 cover by Milton Luros. Not sure what the intentions are of those guys with the green woman or why they want her in a cage. Looks like more cages at the base of the rocket. Nice bright colors make this stand out.

Space Opera by Jack Vance (DAW Books 1979) cover by Don Maitz. Not the kind of cover art one thinks of from a book titled "Space Opera" but Jack Vance liked to do his own thing and Don Maitz delivers a unique cover.

The Age of the Pussyfoot by Frederik Pohl (Del Rey 1977) cover by Paul Alexander. That's a pretty cool alien, seems to have more eyes than tentacles. I suspect he's one of the invaders the cover blurb mentions.

Future Science Fiction January 1953 cover by Milton Luros. The cover is described in the table of contents as "symbolizing the distortions of 'Testament of Andros'", a story by James Blish contained within. Kind of a hodge-podge cover but it's workable.

The Dirty Pair III A Plague of Angels #1 August 1990 cover by Adam Warren. Warren had is own take on the Dirty Pair and even though I'm a big fan of the anime, I like the Warren's artwork and the story. I think this is long out of print and that's a crying shame.

Isaac Asimov's Science Fiction Magazine December 1980 cover by Karl Kofoed. I like this piece and I remember getting this issue. I was (and still am) a Jo Clayton fan so her cover story was one of the first things I read in the issue. Sadly, she died way too young.

The Skylark of Space by Edward E. "Doc" Smith (Pyramid Books 1977) cover by Jack Gaughan. This is the edition I bought that introduced me to Doc Smith. The cover art isn't overly remarkable but it's the contents inside that won me over and eventually led me to his Lensman series.

Nebula Science Fiction February 1954 cover by Bob Clothier. A decent lunarscape (assuming it's our Moon). Hard to tell but it looks like a ladder on the side of the rocket going up about halfway to that opening. That's a long climb even in low-gravity.

Cosmic Engineers by Clifford D. Simak (Paperback Library 1967) cover by Jack Gaughan. The robots here remind me of the battle droids from The Clone Wars. Wonder if George Lucas and company drew any inspiration from this? Regardless, it's a good novel, needs to be back in print.
