I gave my students a very impassioned plea against using AI for their work at the beginning of this semester. Now some of their major assignments are coming in, and not only is their work coming up clean on every AI detector, it's also very good stuff. There's hope out there.

This. At one job we had, the whole art department was slashed down to 1 person overnight cause or AI. I was also removed funny thing is, they ended up using none of their ai-generated designs and still kept using my concept art until the very end 🥹. It’s crazy

Whenever someone questions market impacts of GenAi, show them this article. Make them read each heart breaking story. People’s livelihoods are being negatively impacted, by a tech that relied on the work of those same people to function at capacity. The whole thing makes me sick.

Speaking as someone who frequently commissions podcast art, there is a joy with working with a talented artist who can seemingly effortlessly bring your vision to life. Relinquishing that to ML programs is to deny yourself that. Hire a damn artist. Pay them. Don’t use AI.

I'm actually in the costume design forum that's mentioned in this article, and every day it seems like there's a new post along the lines of "our director generated this image and wants us to completely recreate it, what do I do?" It's so frustrating watching this happen

this is just incredibly bleak we wanted the machines to automate the drudgery so we had more time to create and they have done the exact opposite

My own relevant anecdote is that I recently went to a local playhouse to watch a musical and all of the scenes just had AI generated backgrounds and barely any physical set. It was really distracting and distressing, especially in a place where you think they’d support real art.

Brutal fucking read. AI needs to be abolished. Their techno-fascist CEOs jailed, the data centers burned, & the ashes salted. Some replies said this tech is "inevitable" & creatives should "just adapt". To that I say; if you can't fight for, or imagine, a better world, then YOU are already dead.
