No, your eyes aren’t deceiving you. This is another Ice Storm Warning for northern Wisconsin. Up to 1/2” of ice accumulation and strong wind gusts are expected, which will bring the risk of tree and power line damage. Charge up your electronics now, so they’re charged if the power goes out.

It looks like the warm front is starting to lift into southern Wisconsin, with our Walworth station now reporting 58 degrees and southerly winds. High-resolution models bring the warm front north to around I-94 over the next couple hours, so it's possible the tornado watch extends north too.

A Tornado Watch has just been issued for Grant, Green, Lafayette, Rock, and Walworth Counties until 8 pm. Additional watches will be possible this afternoon as storms develop over Iowa and Missouri and move towards Wisconsin. Tornadoes, wind gusts to 80 mph, and hail are possible.

As the day moves on, we'll be switching attention to severe thunderstorm potential over southern Wisconsin. A level 3/5 risk is in place south of a Lancaster - Watertown - Milwaukee line. A few tornadoes and wind gusts up to 80 mph are the main concerns today.

The freezing line made it a little bit south of I-94 last night, so there may be some minor ice accumulation on elevated surfaces further south than expected. One saving grace is how warm the soil temperatures are, which should help minimize road and sidewalk concerns.

Wisconet is in Critical Weather Day status for the next two days. First is for the ice storm expected tonight across north-central Wisconsin. Second is for the Level 3/5 risk of severe weather tomorrow, with tornadoes and damaging winds as the primary concerns.

A significant spring storm moving across the area over the next 36 hours will bring heavy mixed precipitation to northern Wisconsin tonight and the potential for severe thunderstorms over southern Wisconsin tomorrow. An ice storm is likely across parts of northern Wisconsin.

Winter Storm Watches have been issued for the northern half of Wisconsin ahead of a late-season storm bringing heavy mixed precipitation Wednesday into Thursday. Snow, sleet, and ice accumulations are expected, and travel will be difficult. Stay tuned for updates.

It got rather gusty overnight, with 6 stations measuring at least 40 mph behind the storms that rolled across northern Illinois and far southern Wisconsin.

Winter is not quite done with northern Wisconsin. A chance of snow and freezing rain tonight could lead to slick conditions tomorrow morning. A Winter Weather Advisory is in place from 1 am until 1 pm Tuesday.

The Storm Prediction Center has highlighted southern Wisconsin for a level 2/5 risk of severe thunderstorms overnight. The overall chance of thunderstorms is LOW, but if any storms develop, the environment would support hail of golf ball size or larger.

Cloudy with southwesterly winds and highs in the 60s today. We‘ll have a chance of thunderstorms late Monday into early Tuesday. There’s a level 1/5 risk of severe thunderstorms for mainly hail, but gusty winds will be possible. Heavy rain will be possible with any storms.

Much of western Wisconsin has been highlighted as an area with elevated fire weather conditions tomorrow. Gusty winds and low relative humidity are expected, creating favorable conditions for fires to spread rapidly. Avoid outdoor burning or creating sparks tomorrow.

Those southwesterly winds are making it feel very springlike, but where the winds are coming off the lake, it's not making it out of the 40s.

Today is World Meteorological Day, which commemorates the establishment of the @wmo-global.bsky.social. This year’s theme is “Observing today, protecting tomorrow”. Fitting that our journal article showcasing Wisconet as a case study for building a weather station network got accepted today.

Incredibly, even *more* locations across U.S. are today experiencing their warmest March temperatures on record--many by a wide margin, with some even breaking April records. This includes most or all of: AZ, UT, CO, NM, WY, NE, KS, MO, IA, plus portions of many other states. 🫠

Here's a look at snowfall reports from the last couple days. This was a significant late winter storm, with most of Wisconsin seeing at least 6" of snow, and the peak totals between 12 and 30 inches! It's a storm most won't soon be forgetting.

If you haven’t been through a blizzard before, getting an accurate snowfall measurement will be tricky. There will be significant blowing and drifting because of the strong wind gusts, and it’s possible there will be both deep drifts and bare grass.

This is the first Blizzard Warning for southeast Wisconsin in 792 days (more than 2 years!).

All of Wisconsin, except far northwestern Wisconsin, is now under a BLIZZARD WARNING through tomorrow. Travel should be avoided across all parts of the state until the storm winds down. Stay safe tonight and tomorrow.

Temperatures near this strong thunderstorm are sub-freezing, so in addition to small hail, you’re also probably getting freezing rain or sleet with it.

If you’re north of The Dells, you shouldn’t be traveling unless it’s an emergency.
