There was slowness on one of our API instances contributing to the slowness of the website. We have switched API instances while we continue to investigate the reason for the slowness.

We are investigating an issue preventing our maps from displaying. We are still collecting and disseminating data, it is just not appearing in map form, currently. Apologies for the inconvenience.

Three of our stations met or exceeded the lowest temperature recorded by a Wisconet station. Knight remains the record-holder at -42°F!

These colors mean cold! This is the coldest Wisconet day, when it comes to widespread low wind chills. -40s all the way to the Illinois border and a few wind chills in the -50s!

An Extreme Cold Warning is in effect for all of Wisconsin late tonight and tomorrow morning. Wind chills of -30 to -40°F are expected statewide, and parts of northern Wisconsin could approach -50°F! This is dangerous cold and being outside in it could quickly cause frostbite and hypothermia.

Extreme Cold Warnings are starting to be issued across Wisconsin for dangerously cold wind chills at the end of the week. How about a little contest? Which Wisconet station will record the lowest wind chill by Sunday and how low will it go? Winner gets internet points.

NWS Green Bay has issued their Extreme Cold Watch, so now all of Wisconsin is under an Extreme Cold Watch for the end of the week.

Extreme Cold Watches are being issued for the Thursday - Saturday timeframe, as we may see wind chills from -40 to -45°F! In situations like this, frostbite will be possible within 10 minutes. Make plans to stay inside as much as possible at the end of the week.

Pretty cold again last night, with seven stations dropping below -20°F. We turn our attention to snow tonight, as a clipper system brings a band of heavy snow to southern Wisconsin. 2-5" of snow is expected south of I-94/Highway 18.

Ready for more snow southern Wisconsin?

While it’s helpful that the Kp is massive…the magnetic field direction (Bz) is positive right now, which will limit just how good the views are. The aurora is visible in Germany right now, which bodes well for northern stretches of the US and Canada…but we’ll see about further south.

Blue. Details later. Details: a colder airmass than the one we experienced this morning is on the way late this week and weekend. Conditions could be colder than we had this morning.

While the potential for aurorae seems to be high tonight, there will be cloud cover that could impact viewing. Clouds are expected to decrease through the night, so you’ll have better luck viewing after midnight. Bundle up if you plan to look for the lights!

I believe “frigid” is the correct word to describe this morning’s weather. Below-zero wind chills across the state, with many Wisconet stations reporting wind chills colder than -30°F! We haven’t seen cold like this since last February. Put on your favorite sweater today.

Wind chills have dipped below zero for most of Wisconsin this morning, with lots of -10° to -20°F readings. Tomorrow will be colder, with a Cold Weather Advisory in place for everyone except Door County. Wind chills of -20 to -30°F will be widespread across the state. Bundle up!

Cold Weather Advisories have been issued for most of western Wisconsin for Monday morning, with wind chills forecast to be between -20° and -30°F. We may see these get extended further east, but right now it looks like it won’t be as cold closer to Lake Michigan.
