Here's the latest update about the potential for snow across southern Wisconsin this weekend. Snow accumulation of less than an inch is most likely, especially with the soil temperatures still well above freezing. Bigger story: cold with single digit wind chills Sunday and Monday.

No doubt you've heard there's a chance of snow this weekend across southern Wisconsin. We're not going to put up any forecast totals, but it doesn't look like a big accumulation event right now. The bigger story will be the cold: our first real winter-like weather this weekend.

We love the “super network” of ASOS, AWOS, RAWS, and Wisconet stations. It provides a very high resolution view of the weather across Wisconsin. All told, it’s close to 200 stations that have almost every acre of Wisconsin land within 20 miles of a weather station.

Mild temperatures, low relative humidity, and gusty winds are leading to elevated fire concerns today. Even though the fuels (grasses, cropland, brush) aren't too prone to catching fire, worsening drought will make them more susceptible. Be careful with open flames.

Thick frost out there this morning. A combination of yesterday’s rain, the overnight temperatures in the 20s, and - especially over southern Wisconsin - dense fog allowed a thick layer of ice to form. High wind gusts expected over northern parts of the state - the Gales of November are here.

And look how far we’ve come since then! Thousands upon thousands of observations each day around the world…but still so many more observations that we could be taking.

Take it easy on the roads this morning…Dense Fog has developed over portions of southeastern Wisconsin. The low-lying areas will have the greatest impacts.

Say goodbye to the growing season across southern Wisconsin (it's already gone in northern Wisconsin). Freeze Warning overnight and into tomorrow morning for all of southern Wisconsin, with temperatures expected to fall into the upper-20s and lower-30s.

Could be a bit frosty tomorrow morning for southwestern parts of Wisconsin, as temperatures are expected to dip into the mid-30s. A Frost Advisory is in effect from 2 am until 9 am tomorrow. Friday morning could be even colder, with a freeze looking possible for most of the state.

Oh hey - this is great to see! Fox 6 in Milwaukee has integrated our data into their graphics software to give the latest Wisconet data in their weathercasts.

A bit of frost and even a light freeze reaching parts of southern Wisconsin this morning. Verona and Richland Center dipped down to 31, with La Farge hitting 29. The coldest weather remained concentrated over northern Wisconsin, with lows down to 25 at Crandon and Knight.

A Frost Advisory is in place from late tonight into early tomorrow morning for the counties in blue. Lows in the mid-30s will leave frost on exposed surfaces. If you have plants you want to protect, cover them or bring them inside!

The Gale Watch has been upgraded to a Gale Warning across Lake Michigan for tomorrow.

Cool and damp this morning. That feels like fall! Once these showers finish rolling through southeastern Wisconsin, the rest of the day should be dry.

Drought conditions continue to worsen across Wisconsin, and we've added Moderate Drought (D1, tan) to the state for the first time since the middle of July. Nearly 70% of the state is in Abnormally Dry (D0, yellow) or Moderate Drought conditions.

Five-minute rainfall and soil moisture at four depths at the @wisconet.bsky.social South Milwaukee station during the rainfall event of August 9-10, 2025, that produced flooding throughout the Milwaukee area. Part of a case study for class today.

Not as cold overall this morning as it was yesterday, but more parts of the state got into the frost and freeze criteria. The growing season is coming to an end and it is becoming more fall-like by the day.

We hit hard freeze criteria in a lot of northern Wisconsin, effectively bringing an end to the growing season up there. A hard freeze is defined as when the temperature gets down to 28°F or lower for at least an hour.

Nice fall weather today, so we’re getting a lot of work done. Visiting a few sites for fall maintenance and planning out web development work for the fall and winter.

Weather radar lets us see more than just precipitation! When large groups of birds and bats take off, they can create roost rings as they spread out into the air. We can also see masses of insects flying around, wind farms, and even transportation. Which do you see in this radar loop?

Freeze Warnings and Frost Advisories are in effect for most of the northern part of Wisconsin tonight into tomorrow morning. This is our first big shot of cold air this fall, so if you still have plants you want to keep for a little longer, here's your notice to cover them up or bring them in!
