LET ‘ER RIP #52 Back to this rip-roaring series while I await more mail days. There’s definitely some tell-tale fraying on that right sleeve that qualifies this card for this series.

1,185. 2023 TOPPS CHROME PLATINUM ANNIVERSARY GREEN WAVE REFRACTOR #356 I think Kermit was wrong. It IS easy being green. When you’re a beautiful, color-matchy refractor like this, everything’s gotta come easy to you. It certainly has my love, now that it’s in my collection. 1/2

1,184. 2020 TOPPS STADIUM CLUB CHROME #146 This is one of my favorite 2020s cards, so I’m happy to welcome a fourth version to my collection. Gotta love young Jose signing for a swarm of fans in that bright yellow jersey, looking completely disinterested. 😆 1/2

1,183. 1990 NORMAN JAMES LOCKER CARDS #L310 This is a big ol’ 8x10 card I’d never seen before it popped up on eBay. It’s a really classic shot of Jose with that 33 on full display as he watches one soar over the centerfield fence. 1/2

1,182. 1989 PANINI STICKERS #422 Moving up in alphabetical order from ‘89 OPC stickers to ‘89 Panini, we’ve got this new acquisition with a very interesting anomaly: no batting gloves! Not sure I’ve ever seen that on an in-game photo before! 1/2

1,181. 1989 O-PEE-CHEE STICKERS #171 Yet another new Jose from this ‘89 sticker set, with the big guy looking very serious and studious. Also, I’m not sure what’s going on with the point of that v-neck but this might also qualify for my “let ‘er rip” series. 1/2

1,180. 1989 O-PEE-CHEE STICKERS SUPER STAR #13 Technically, this is a sticker BACK. But we know who the star of the show is here, right? Competing for attention is the oversized OPC logo, which when you really look at it is quite odd and feels like something from the ‘50s. 1/2

1,179. 1989 O-PEE-CHEE STICKERS #148 Got a few new cards! This one’s actually a sticker from my home and native land (Canada), with a great photo in what I call the “K pose” because of his body’s shape. There are variations of the back and this one pleases me as a Jays fan. 1/2

LET ‘ER RIP #51 Here’s our second straight card-back photo from Topps (Gallery this time), showing us that the tattered sleeve shredding Jose did in Boston carried over to his return to Oakland in ‘97. Real dirtbag look for Jose, with the stubble, Oakleys and mullet.

LET ‘ER RIP #50 In 1997, Topps hid Jose’s terribly tattered sleeves on the back of his card. This one’s even got a 3-inch-long tentacle of fabric dangling over that massive left biceps.

LET ‘ER RIP #49 After yesterday’s strange “long sleeves under ripped sleeves” look, today Jose is wearing a similarly tattered pullover, but this time showing off those pythons. Also, a rare instance of him being listed with one team and pictured with another.

LET ‘ER RIP #48 Hey, ripped uni fans! I know there are so many of you out there. 😬 This one is unique among these 48 posts: a ripped-sleeve pullover over a long-sleeve shirt! What’s the point of ripped sleeves if you’re not showing off the pythons?🐍 💪

LET ‘ER RIP #47 Here we have a very similarly shredded pregame pullover as the one we saw yesterday — but they are different. Yesterday’s had the secondary “socks” logo, while today’s has the classic B. It really looks like Jose straight up pulled the sleeves off. 💪

LET ‘ER RIP #46 If I could choose one card as an avatar for this series, this might be it. These sleeves are so shredded — as are his arms — that it looks like Jose literally Hulked out and burst through this pregame pullover. 💪

LET ‘ER RIP #45 This one is pretty unique! For the first time that I’ve seen, Jose has cut the left sleeve into a 3/4 sleeve. Plus, it looks like the right sleeve isn’t trimmed at all. On top of all that, his jersey is only half buttoned.

Jumping outside the “rip” series here to show off another weird uni thing Jose seemed to do while wearing the Red Sox’s spring training jersey. He folded the striped cuff of the sleeves up. On the Score card you can see the left sleeve partially fell back down. 🤷🏻‍♂️

LET ‘ER RIP #44 This rare card-back instance of a torn uniform brings out the big guns! 💪 You can even see the shadow of that tattered right sleeve on Jose’s massive biceps. I’m pretty sure he also trimmed the bottom of that pullover.

LET ‘ER RIP #43 Happy Thanksgiving to my American friends from your Canadian Canseco Collector! Celebrating with one of my all-time faves, which also happens to feature a jaggedly trimmed sleeve. Hoping your turkey is trimmed much better!

LET ‘ER RIP #42 Our first look at Jose in torn-up Red Sox colors is a rip-roaring doozy! I had to zoom in on those crazy, haphazard angles on the trimmed sleeve of that warm-up jacket. Maybe the most brutal, viscous, rip job in this series!

LET ‘ER RIP #41 If I made this series a top 10 list (which I probably should have because who knew there would be SO MANY ripped-clothes cards) this might be No. 1. Why? Because he’s wearing TWO SETS of trimmed-sleeve shirts! Plus the whole “why the shovel” question.

LET ‘ER RIP #40 Such a great photo, with that trimmed sleeve rippling in his swing’s wake, and his forearm just plain ripped.

LET ‘ER RIP #39 Here’s another angle from that fateful Fenway day when Jose wore an undershirt with cutoff sleeves. I guess also significant that day was the whole throwing knuckleballs and tearing up his elbow thing. But the sleeves were clearly the main attraction.

LET ‘ER RIP #38 Extra Bases and extra ripped sleeves here! That’s right, we see pieces of four red, ripped undershirt sleeves in the two photos on this card. That’s gotta be a record “breaker” in the world of Canseco cards.

LET ‘ER RIP #37 I know for 31 years most of us have been enjoying the three bats here. But leave it to me to notice how uneven a cut job Jose (or some clubhouse dude) did on those sleeves. And why didn’t he just wear a short sleeve shirt? Why did he want a full biceps cover?

LET ‘ER RIP #36 In my chronological-alphabetical collection, this is the first instance of Jose cropping the sleeves off a red Rangers undershirt, following their 1994 uni revamp. That forearm is pretty ripped, too. 💪

LET ‘ER RIP #35 Yup, on that fateful day at Fenway Park where Jose destroyed his elbow throwing knuckleballs, he was wearing the undershirt with trimmed sleeves. Maybe if his arms were completely unfettered by an undershirt, less harm would’ve been done. We’ll never know. 🤔

LET ‘ER RIP #34 One of these things doesn’t belong here. I mean, on a grander scale, Jose didn’t really belong in Texas. But for the purposes of this series, Jose is the only one wearing a blue undershirt, ripped sleeves or otherwise.

LET ‘ER RIP #33 I chose the Marlins inaugural version of this card just because it’s cool. And maybe it was the Marlin who chopped up Jose’s sleeves with its sharp, pointy nose.

LET ‘ER RIP #32 What I love about this, from a ripped uniform perspective, is it’s a painting and yet they still captured the frayed fabric on the sleeve of that blue undershirt. Jose’s base Studio is from the same photoshoot but this one’s much more interesting.

LET ‘ER RIP # 31 Here’s another instance of Jose sweltering in the Texas heat, yet still wearing an undershirt with trimmed sleeves. Also ripped in this photo: that baseball. He’s knocking the stuffing out of it.

LET ‘ER RIP #30 Ah, Flair, how I love thee. This beauty gives us two angles of both of Jose’s trimmed-sleeve blue undershirt. It’s also a cool display of the Rangers’ home and away looks. That being said, it’s amazing he didn’t overheat wearing an undershirt in Arlington.

LET ‘ER RIP #29 This big ol’ bookmark card features a trimmed blue undershirt. And Jose’s like, “Bro, why are you obsessing over my undershirt sleeves?” Yeah, it’s probably not healthy. But such is the life of a Canseco collector. I can’t stop.

LET ‘ER RIP #28 Honestly, I’m not even posting ALL of the cards where Jose has trimmed the sleeves off his undershirt. There are just soooo many. But you can definitely see it here and I love any card that shows how crazy open Jose’s stance was.

LET ‘ER RIP #27 Here Jose is wearing an A’s branded trash bag with sleeves cut out. Kidding! Seems like a XXXXXXL warmup jacket with the sleeves cut short.

LET ‘ER RIP #26 It’s three, three, THREE times the ripped undershirt sleeves on Jose’s iconic triple-exposure card from 1992 Upper Deck. We even get to see the job he did on both sleeves.

LET ‘ER RIP #25 Yup, when Jose was traded to the Rangers, he went from trimming the sleeves off green undershirts to trimming the sleeves off blue undershirts. 👕✂️

LET ‘ER RIP #24 As if there wasn’t enough to love about Jose, dude just didn’t care about cutting his sleeves in a straight line. Just wanted them cut. Who gives a 💩 how it looks? I mean, look at that left arm!

LET ‘ER RIP #23 Here we see Jose shouting, “Hey everyone, check out the undershirt I’m wearing! I cut the sleeves by myself with scissors! It’s a little uneven on the left but I did my best! Now, stick to center, Willie Wilson, I got this ball!”

LET ‘ER RIP #22 Another great shot of Jose watching one go, while wearing a cut-off long sleeve undershirt. His back pocket is also inside-out. Is an inside-out pocket series in my future? 🤔

LET ‘ER RIP #20 To be completely honest, I’m not 100% sure he cut the sleeves on that undershirt. It’s pretty clean. But I don’t think I’ve seen an instance where it’s clear Jose’s wearing a designed-to-be-short-sleeves undershirt. So I’m assuming this one’s trimmed, too. ✂️

LET ‘ER RIP #20 There’s so much to love about this classic 1991 Topps card, not the least of which is that bat appearing to be bending through the air from the force of Jose’s swing. But don’t discount that undershirt with the trimmed sleeves.

LET ‘ER RIP #19 There’s a lot to take in here, I know, but for just one second, can I draw your attention for the purposes of this series over to Jose’s chest and the sliced v-neck just above it? Okay, now you can resume your focus elsewhere.

LET ‘ER RIP (HONORARY JAYS EDITION) I noticed this during Game 7 and thought it was so fitting for my current Canseco series. Huge hole in the right batting glove and huge hole on his left knee. Ernie Clement’s hustle, and love for the game and his teammates, was a joy to watch.

LET ‘ER RIP #18 Trying to process the Jays’ World Series loss through gratitude for an incredible season and this card. It’s Jose wearing a ripped-sleeve undershirt while maybe watching a Big Mac blast soar overhead. Recalls more memories of what makes baseball so great. 💔

LET ‘ER RIP #17 Jose is absolutely thrilled here to be playing catch and showing off his massive right biceps in the process. But at the same time he’s sporting a BP/spring training jersey with that classic sliced v-neck we’ve seen so often in this series.

LET ‘ER RIP #16 More trimmed undershirt sleeves for Jose here. Is it the best photo, swinging with his eyes closed? Not necessarily. But it looks like Fenway Park and I always like a Fenway card.

1,177 & 1,178. 1989 UPPER DECK ALL-STAR MISCUTS #659 Thanks to @AnthonyCa2Tx for reaching out to me with these funky miscuts. I mean, a miscut is one thing, but to essentially have both sides of a miscut is super cool! It’s a Canseco collector’s version of a heart locket.

LET ‘ER RIP #15 Throwing back to a look we saw in the early days of this series: the sliced v-neck to better allow Jose’s colossal chest and shoulders to breathe. Also: that’s one curled-up mega mullet!
