Starting Monday, an additional $100 fee on marriage licenses begins. The added fee, stemming from House Bill 1498, helps fund a new domestic violence co-responder program. If you're getting married by Sept. 26, you can get your license on Friday without paying the additional fee.

Voters in some parts of Central Kitsap and about two-thirds of Bainbridge Island will only have the library measure to vote on, because there were not enough candidates to prompt a primary. Under state law, nonpartisan races require three candidates for there to be a primary.

A marriage license is valid 60 days. If you get one by July 25, that gets you through summer. HB 1498 adds $100 to the fee after that date to fund a state domestic violence co-responder program. Until then, in Kitsap County the fee is $72. Read the bill at app.leg.wa.gov/billsummary?...

Reminder: The last day to get a marriage license in Kitsap County for $72 is July 25. After then, a change in state law is increasing the fee by $100 to $172. Go to kitsap.gov/auditor and click on "marriage license" for all marriage license information.
