This morning’s cargo train derailment in downtown Austin has caused road closures and delays. Cleanup is expected to take all day. Grateful for first responders and city staff, and thankful there are no reported injuries or loss of life.

Following the March 1 tragedy downtown, several of my colleagues and I sent a letter to Waymo regarding reports that an autonomous vehicle obstructed first responders. In emergencies, every second matters. We’ve invited Waymo to meet with Council committees to discuss solutions.

 The Texas Union is the primary polling site on the undergraduate campus. I’ve sent a letter to President Jim Davis calling for immediate restoration of clear, accessible voting routes there or ADA-compliant alternatives.
