in the manga, Elaina and co look much older and mature compared to the anime and even to an extent the LN. I think this difference in design is super interesting and indicative of the vibe the manga wants to present the story and characters as. picture 2 is LN. picture 3/4 are the manga.

I do not recommend starting the series with the manga, it is best read after reading the Light novel and should be treated as an addition to the series rather than the main piece.

The Wandering Witch manga spans 6 volumes and 24 chapters. while having some manga original stories and following the episodic format to an extent, it mostly focuses on the "story arcs" of the LN series with the re-occurring characters. The final chapter of the manga ends in volume 10 of the LN.

NOT so fun fact~ slavery exists in the world of the wandering witch series and it is probably more common than we are led to believe, after all, what we see is only what Elaina writes down in her journal. So far notable instances have been shown to us in volume 1 of the series and in volume 12.

This is the volume 1 cover of the Wandering Witch manga, the series started in November 2018 and ended March of 2024.

Elaina is a travelling witch on a journey to gain new experiences and perspectives to grow as a person, inspired by a book/journal she read as a child of a wandering witch. As of right now, there have been 2 implied moments in the series where she has thought about ending her journey.

OK SO episode 12 of the Wandering Witch anime (the one with all the different alternative versions of Elaina's) has a lot of differences compared to the story in the Light novel, please read the image here for those differences and what they mean and my personal opinion on them.

Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina anime aired in October 2020 and finished in December. On September 19th 2025, a new project was teased and on the 4th January 2026 A sequel movie was officially announced. The movie is speculated to be about a character shown in the final scenes of the anime.

In volume 3 of the series, time travel is presented as a multi branched system where going back and changing something creates a new branch rather than effecting the present. This is later retconned as in volume 7/8 there are multiple stories where changing the past effects the present. 4th pic=vol7

Fun fact~ while in the series (up to the EN translation) there does not exist any countries that we are familiar with, in the very first story of the series, Saya (a re-occuring character) is implied to be from a Japan-like country as she is from "the east" and performs the "Dogeza".
