#StrangerThings finale was both safe and satisfying to some degree. Sort of the summary of the finale seasons of the show. Played it a bit too down the middle but hard to say I didn’t enjoy spending time in the world.

Hit my head leaving the subway even though I thought I was ducking low enough. Pretty much sums up life of late.

SENTIMENTAL VALUE: Transfixing meditation on recovery, forgiveness, and forging a path ahead. Subtle and patient, it slowly but surely delivers its emotional blows in a restrained but devastating fashion. Completely moved by it and will be thinking about it all weekend.

ANNIVERSARY: A scary and sobering look at where our country could be headed during this tense political time. Accurate look at how it can tear families apart. The rot starts from within. Its final act gets too nutty but it definitely leaves an impression.

CHRISTY: Easily Sydney Sweeney's best performance to date. Ben Foster is also unrecognizable (it took me a few scenes to recognize him) and outright despicable. These two do some heavy lifting for what is mostly a familiar set of sports cliches into something pretty solid.

BUGONIA grabs the pulse of the current state of where we at as a society better than EDDINGTON. Yorgos is in his bag, but there's something different at the same time. Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons are a mighty force together. Hilarious and rightfully bleak.

SHELBY OAKS: A milquetoast predictable affair that is not scary, inspired or memorable.. There is no unique vision or cinematography to hang its hat on. In essence, its a film that people are paying attention to because a YouTube critic made it. Hey, more power to him.

THE MASTERMIND: Kelly Reichardt takes on the heist genre (but really it becomes so much more) in a way that only she can. Smart and deliberate with a patient refined approach that embodies show don't tell. Josh O'Connor continues his incredible run.

Walking in to my movie theater to see Shelby Oaks and a guy just walked by with his friend put his hand above his head in disbelief 😧 and goes “They’re making another one!?” His friend almost concerned goes “another one of what!?” The guy goes “AVATAR” Amazing.
