The C64 port of Captain Blood was tremendous. It nailed the eerie feel of the original. Planets looked stunning. Smooth scrolling kept it cinematic. Sound effects were efficient. Chat with aliens and hunt clones across a procedurally generated galaxy. All that fit into 64K of RAM

My 1984 MSX Yashica YC-64 and its Konami games galore. Penguin Adventure was a mega hit but surprisingly didn't have any conversion outside of MSX systems, unlike Nemesis (Gradius), Vampire Killer (Castlevania) or Metal Gear...

Prince of Persia had an excellent conversion to the Amstrad CPC. No latency, as opposed to 16 bit versions. No ugly tones as on consoles. The stones are a little too blue, that's all. I still can't understand why there wasn't a C64 port until 2011...

Just tested Power Menu, a 1985 desktop management utility by Brown Bag Software, running in DOS 3.0 (Windows 1.0 was not even released yet). That's how people had fun with their PC forty years ago!

Playing a remake of Indiana Jones on my Thomson TO7/70. This computer was the French answer to the computer boom of the early 80s. It had a closing cartridge slot and light pen support. A true slice of retro à la Française.

Delightful Prince of Persia. The tenacious effort by Jordan Mechner, working alone on the smallest details with the limited resources of the Apple II to make this a jewel of a game, set an example for me to follow for my own projects. The DOS version here on my PS/2 is just magnificent

GEM: a Macintosh-like graphical interface for the Atari ST. The little green desktop has become emblematic of the Computer Golden Age, just like the blue desktop of the Amiga or the black & white of the Macintosh. Legendary pictures. The GEM was also used for early Amstrad PC.
