Thursday – LODE youtu.be/e3vEFaxRdwQ Lode is a standard fen edge village in many regards, but it’s also the location of Anglesey Abbey. That was formerly the home of the Fairhaven family, who lived there for many years. Also part of the estate is Lode Mill.

Wednesday – SWAFFHAM BULBECK youtu.be/j6r8lOBNK1k Swaffham Bulbeck itself is a small, mostly residential village with a school, a church, a village hall, and a pub. To the North of all that, there’s another part to the village which goes by the name Commercial End.

Tuesday – SWAFFHAM PRIOR youtu.be/dqbrEGyUuEg Swaffham Prior is unusual in that it has two churches in the same churchyard. Only one serves the village now. The other has been turned into a communal space. Having two of the same thing also applies to windmills in this village

Monday – REACH youtu.be/8204S0Gj7KE Reach means strip of land – it’s a simple as that. This village is most famous for the almost unmissable earthwork that it sits at the end of. That would be the 11km long Devil’s Dyke, which runs from Reach to Woodditton in Suffolk

Sunday – BAKEWELL youtu.be/2poGN_b8P8k Back in the 1800s, one of the pubs here created, by accident, what would go on to be the world famous Bakewell Pudding. Since then, the town of its creation has gained shops that sell it and it remains as popular today as its ever been

Thursday – ELTISLEY youtu.be/1H2Gac46qrQ Eltisley possesses one of the biggest greens in Cambridgeshire. It’s a massive triangle of grass which is bounded by the roads from Cambridge to the East and St Neots to the West. Historically they met at the green

Wednesday – PAPWORTH EVERARD youtu.be/UIVA8dkMeWQ Following the Norman conquest, the village and land of Papworth were granted to a Norman knight, Everard De Beche. In later times, Papworth gained fame for the Royal Papworth Hospital, which has since moved to Cambridge.

Tuesday – PAPWORTH ST AGNES youtu.be/UjSbIUCfkx0 Now despite the name of this village, Papworth St Agnes has nothing to do with any saints, let alone St Agnes. On the green there’s a building that looks like an old mill – the sort you might see in industrial Lancashire!

Monday – GRAVELEY youtu.be/-ld4WeigstI Hello South Cambridgeshire, I’m back again! Graveley’s border with Huntingdonshire once sported an airfield. It was RAF Graveley, which was a little ironic name wise, given that most of it fell within the boundaries of Offord Darcy

Thursday – MARSTON youtu.be/zBjuaD6ggPg Marston is a nice little village, laid out in an almost perfect square. There are several landmarks here which bear relevance to the mighty Thorold family – the same mob that occupied Syston Park Hall as we learned yesterday.

Wednesday – SYSTON youtu.be/UPKvqxVUomk Syston can be split into two areas. You have the village itself, which is little more than a cluster of buildings around the church. Syston Park used to contain a grand mansion, built in 1775. It was the seat of the Thorold baronets

Monday – HONINGTON youtu.be/b84YI1Ln1cg Honington lies just north of the junction between the A153 and the A607. To the South and east of it all there’s a perfectly preserved batch of earthworks, commonly known as the Camp or the Honington Hill Fort.

Sunday – STENSON FIELDS youtu.be/U1chIH076is This is Stenson Fields. Its a semi-rural suburban housing development, which originated in Derby, before spilling over the district boundary. The parish is contiguous with Sinfin, but Stenson Fields has become its own community

Saturday – TWYFORD AND STENSON youtu.be/zmGLxdCzMtU Today we’re in Twyford and Stenson, which is located just to the south of Derby on the Trent and Mersey Canal. The 'Stenson Bubble' is a sound. It’s made by the actual bubbles that you can see in the canal here!

Friday – WIGSTON PARVA youtu.be/c3ola4bUwZA We’ve mentioned the long lost town of Venonae a few times. That was just one of the Roman settlements around here. Wigston Parva is just to the North of the A5, and the experts reckon here, stood an early military fort for the area

Thursday – SHARNFORD youtu.be/ycbqgC_nmt0 Sharnford is located four miles away from Hinckley, and 7 away from Lutterworth, so its kind of in middle of everywhere. The Soar Brook passes through this village and you used to be able to cross it using a ford.

Wednesday – ASTON FLAMVILLE youtu.be/X-Kck0egC-k Aston Flamville is known for three things. First, there’s a pretty little church here which contains some bog oak from Sapcote. Second there’s an equally attractive dovecote on Lychgate Lane, and thirdly, Aston Flamville Manor.

Monday – ELMESTHORPE youtu.be/OElImN17Whs Elmesthorpe has moved over the past 1,000 years. The Black Death killed off a lot of the population and for almost 500 years afterwards, it almost didn’t exist. In the mid 19th century it started to grow again thanks to the railways

Sunday – STAVELEY youtu.be/yaDKD3msATA Perhaps Staveley’s greatest asset its superb Yorkshire Trust wetland site, which occupies a former sand and gravel quarry. The nature reserve is a huge attraction in these parts, regularly bringing birdwatchers to the village.

Thursday – TRUNCH youtu.be/kf0p0ZS2NAE Nobody can be sure of what Trunch means, but its almost certainly to do with a wood. Trunch might be a familiar name to you if you like English folk music. The fictional village of St Just-near-Trunch was the home of The Kipper Family

Wednesday – GIMINGHAM youtu.be/XZU8yN3sl0M Gimingham is laid out along one long road, with an old school at one end and the village hall at the other. Crossing it is the River Mun, which used to power a watermill. Its workings have been turned into an unusual local landmark

Tuesday – TRIMINGHAM youtu.be/rURzG9ylcvo Until 2023, there was a huge structure on the cliffs at Trimingham. Its no longer there, but it wasn’t swept into the sea. It was removed under the threat of coastal erosion. And what was it? Well, the locals knew it as The Golf Ball
