I am at home because we didn't have anyone to watch the dogs. My dad's power went out so he stayed over. I was planning on spending time with him this afternoon anyway. I was okay yesterday, but I'm upset today. It's sort of good I was home to help out dad.

If I fill out your contact form and say I don't want to be called, please email me, and your first instinct is to call - you have lost any chance of business with me. None whatsoever. If you email to say "I really think its easier to review everything over the phone, when can we talk?"

Probably my least popular opinion is I prefer chicken to beef in almost any situation. Roast Chicken? Come on, son! Pan-seared breast? Just had that mulligatawny stew with chicken - so good! I think the exception is short ribs. Just realizing I prefer it so much more.

Made mulligatawny stew for the first time and accidentally put chai in it. The carton was just like a broth carton. Luckily, it was at the end. Tastes fine - similar flavors.

As much of a dumpster fire X is, the education community over there is surprisingly strong. People actually still having conversations and you can get by with just blocking a few weirdos. Outside of that silo, its almost unusable.

Awoke to discover Daughter had put the dogs away last night by ignoring the poo and pee on the floor and not shutting the sliding door all the way.

The

crew seems to be pretty stagnant, really. A lot of teacher action on Threads and still over on X, but I hate X so much and the Threads isn't as good as old Twitter was at all.

One thing that always surprises me about kids is their terrible sense of scale. We're doing news bumpers for animation and the size of the "School News" text at the end is SO SMALL for so many of them. No one can read that.

Man. If only Congress had some sort of warning they'd have to vote on stuff we wouldn't be in this mess.

Pea Soup with hamburger is not as good as Pea Soup with a ham hock, that is what I've discovered.

Had a post go kind of crazy over on Threads and not sure I'm into that. I always think it'd be cool to make a little side-cash on social media, but I also have too much anxiety for it.

I am a Montessori trained teacher. I spent four years at a Montessori and studied Dr. Montessori's writings a lot. The Montessori curriculum is heavily scripted, yet open to great opportunity for child choice. The prepared environment is hyper-organized, yet allows for lots of exploration.

JC Penney = went yesterday for clothes shopping and got a pretty nice set of new clothes. Not everything, and I regret not getting the two dress shirts I liked, but I was dropping a pretty penny (no pun intended).

A big chunk of my educational philosophy can be summed up with "knowing things is better than not knowing things." Maybe someday, I'll get quoted.

I would like my fellow teachers to both stop putting in the after-hours work AND take more responsibility for learning in the classroom. We have such a hard time with nuance as a world, and its evident in the classrooms as well. But if you have sharp lessons, you'd be surprised at what you can do.

I guess I sort of know why, but why can't locals band together to try and create more localized news media outlets? Old school newspapers and radio stations? I guess the startup costs must be insane. But it feels like the monopolies are separating from the main populace. We could undercut.

The median for SNAP benefits is almost $3000 annually! $3000 just to swipe a card, work two jobs, stress about how to cover your rent, drive on bald tires, and forgo preventative medicine! It's a median of $60,000 to house a prisoner, fyi.

I was hoping I'd end my short time as a Blue Jays fan with a victory, but at least as a Tigers fan, I'm used to this type of thing. Anyway, F--- the Dodgers, as usual. Well, not really, although I'd prefer the Brewers. Oh well. Baseball ends. I do not watch any other sports with regularity.

Just imagining this guy at work the next day describing trick or treating like it's a weird thing that happened and his co-workers like "Yeah, Bob, they were trick or treating. Everyone does it on Halloween, what's wrong with you?" and him refusing to believe it's common.

I'm jealous of people who love fishing. I grew up fishing but never got into it. It's fine. But it looks like something that's really awesome to be super into, and I'm not. Does anyone else have hobbies they know they don't like, but sort of wish they did?

@carlhendrick.substack.com

You guys remember the episode of Recess where TJ cornered the market on stickers so everyone just switched stickers? I feel like the "shadow" government is just us, the people, helping each other and ignoring all the elites.

I'm not one to address physcial appearance, but I preferred Janeway with the long hair pulled back. The short hair is more practical, though. Maybe it's just because its new to me since I'm only in the 4th season.

I've said this before, but I'm going to say it again: I'm so upset the Rise of Skywalker completely ignored the setup of Last Jedi. Could have absolutely been a better setup.

Pretty over it about Threads posts saying "Teachers, SNAP benefits mean you better buy food for your students!" What a dehumanizing and patronizing way to look at Teachers and their students. We are not heros or martyrs and we do our students a disservice to act in that way.

Property taxes are for the surrounding area. Do you skydive to your solar-powered off grid house inexplicably built in the middle of a municipality? You pay and use the benefits either directly or indirectly. You live there. You sound like a freeloader, not a free thinker.

'Miserable': Hundreds sheltering in Western Alaska schools in dire conditions
The state is evacuating the vulnerable and trying to find safe shelter for all. “We're moving as fast as we can,” the incident commander said. “We know that folks are miserable.”
