This week was a challenge for many reasons (post-trip catch up with work, supporting kids catching up with school, some family medical stuff going on, and stupid pain flare-up), but my heart remains full of gratitude for the many blessings I have. I promise I'll stop spewing sap all over here soon.

We are back on PEi, approximately 25 hours later. Haven’t slept since Friday night so gosh darn it is my bed gonna feel nice. Epic trip, such great memories, and I’m happy to be back home now.

Air Lufthansa was a treat! Excellent service, friendly staff, actual meals (plural!) with (gasp!) real cutlery…way above Air Canada in terms of service. I’d absolutely fly them again. Now in Toronto (yay, 🇨🇦!) waiting for our last flight home.

It’s starting to hit me that I haven’t slept since Friday night… 🧟‍♀️ 😴

Today is travel day for us, but in the most roundabout way. Our first flight (2 hours) left Glasgow at 6am (that was fun). We’re now in frankfurt airport, hanging out here for 3 more hours. Then a 9 hour flight to Toronto, followed by a 6 hour wait, and then lastly, we fly into PEI at midnight. 🤪

Alarm goes off in 40 min and I’m finding I’m finally wanting to nod off of course. Now switching tactics to keeping self awake. This night sucks, friends.

I have yet to fall asleep and our alarm goes off in 90min…at 2:30am (need to be at airport shortly after 3). Not scheduled to land back on PEi until close to midnight. It’s gonna be a long ass travel day, made worse by zero sleep. Yay.

I’m getting to hang out with family here in Scotland and my heart is so so full. Really means a lot to me, as I didn’t grow up with a lot of extended family near me (as in: none, really). This trip has meant the world to me, and I am beyond grateful.

Love me a good Highland Cow! Also, these guys drink water the same way our Great Pyrenees does (mouth wide open), so maybe a distant relative?

BBQ this afternoon with my Scottish family. It’s been decades since I’ve seen them in person, some of them not since I was a teen. It felt really special to be altogether again, and bonus: warm, sunny weather meant we could all be outside.

Friends, I think I may have gotten 7 hours of sleep last night! First time in months for this. Currently first one up, and am enjoying a cup of tea and a read on the couch. ❤️

Oh I’d forgotten how I do not like coffee over here. On the plus side, the tea is excellent.

While in the Northumberland region of England, we stayed at Langley Castle. We had a private villa, and we felt very fancy. Peacocks roamed the grounds!

Off to Scotland today! Taking the train, which I absolutely love and miss so much. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Gonna be sappy for a moment, friends: Today, my husband and I renewed our vows, in celebration of 20 years of marriage. A private ceremony: nothing official; just us, our girls, and our tour guide. Location: Hadrian’s Wall, Hexham. Weather was perfect. Setting was perfect. It was perfect.

I really don’t want to always moan about nighttime pain, even tho it’s my 99% of the time reality… but damnit I am so so tired of being awake, in pain.

I wish my insomnia had also taken a vacation…different time zone, same frustrating sleepless nights.

My heart is having the best time connecting with my old uni friends here in the UK. Haven’t seen them in 20+ years!

Potential grass fire near-ishy where I am has me quietly sweating bullets. An out of control fire could easily affect me rn. How do I listen to the local scanner 😅

Jet lag is a jerk. I went about 48 hours on 3 hours (ish) sleep…and yet here I am, wide awake at 12:30am, after falling asleep 2 hours ago…

In happier news, I'm in love w. my new office chair. I bought one designed for gaming (I'm not a gamer) & for larger people (I'm not very big—I fidget & need to be able to change sitting positions. "Normal" chairs hurt me. This one, I can sit x-legged & it has a footstool that pulls out. Sweet!

Tried RAPID neurofascial reset today. It hurt like a b, but I'm hopeful I'll find some long-term pain relief, which can then hopefully let me sleep. I'm beyond tired, friends. Last night, I slept from 4am until 6am. C'est ca. Started my day sobbing. I'd like to not start my day sobbing...

I miss sleep.

Today, I took my lab in for bloodwork (she has cancer), when this man came in, made a fuss over my dog (instant like), and then asked about joint pills for his Great Pyrenees. We bonded over the breed. Vet hands him a bottle. Dosage? 8 PILLS/DAY. 8! Oh, the trials of owning a giant dog...

It’s 7pm and this is the first time all day I’ve managed to find some pain relief so I guess my day can start now? Chronic pain robs you of time, as well as health…

I’m currently going through a rough time, physically. Pain is pretty severe and constant, not responding to cbd as well as it usually does. I came off a drug I’d been on 2 years so that might be at play, as well as seasonal transition time. Not sleeping as pain keeps me up. I’m a grumpy grump…

I recently came off gabbapentin because of the scary long term effects. It can take time to wean off and I’m sure it’s not all out of my system yet. The drug did help my pain (and therefore sleep) so I do need to find a safe(r) replacement. At a loss, currently.

I haven’t been sleeping and typically I’m good at not letting that get to me. I’ve had to develop coping strategies; otherwise, life is miserable. But I’m struggling today. Awake most of the night in pain yet again, with nothing helping. Please let this phase pass soon…(solo parenting week to boot).

The hypocrisy on les Internets today is something else. A local business person outraged over seeing someone killed on Instagram took the cake for me tho. So it's only a bad thing when it's white people being killed right? All those innocent Palestinians being blown up—that's fine to show? 😡

Went for a bike ride to clear my head (high focus/thinking/editing day), and, friends, I am in love. I've never been a biker, never felt comfortable on them, never understood gears, and overall just felt "not for me" vibes. My girl Tiff (bike) has changed all of that. Yay!

I got almost 5 hours of sleep last night and I am a new person! I've renegotiated my mortgage in a favourable way (what?), I completed edits on a memoir and returned to client, and I'm now editing a non-profit's strategic plan. Imagine if I ever got a full 8 hours of sleep, holy!

Ugh, what a rough night. I saw every hour on the clock in my unsuccessful attempts to dull pain. Today’s going to need some extra strong coffee…

Hi. I know I've said this before, but it bears repeating: we have to be able to criticize Mark Carney without living in fear that doing so will help Poilievre or weaken Canada. He is our Prime Minister. Out of anyone, he deserves to be watched and critiqued. We should all be dying on this hill.

We're heading to the UK later this month. Originally, we were supposed to go to Iceland, but that fell through. So I don't feel at all guilty about splurging on tickets to see Wicked when we're in London.

Tried e-biking today for the first time! Sure, I had moments of terror (it’s been a long time since I’ve been on any bikes), but overall I loved it. And I sure did appreciate the assist for those uphills. #ChronicPain #Hypermobility

Due to a glitch on my bank end, I had to have new debit cards issued for both personal and business accounts. B/C of this, the system reset and I lost all customizations, including the names I gave each account. So everything is a mess now and bank tells me they no longer have this feature. /1

Pet Peeve: When drivers do stupid things (breaking the rules of the road) under the guise of being nice (e.g., stopping to let someone in when stopping is dangerous). I wish people would stop doing this. There absolutely is a time to be nice, but that time is never at intersections or roundabouts...

I don’t want to be that cranky old lady, but it’s hard seeing people excited about a celebrity’s engagement when the world is on fire. Not a peep on climate change, Palestine, 2SLGBTQIA+ rights, reproductive rights, etc. but a football player & a singer gets y’all worked up. Make it make sense. 🤷‍♀️

Here's something I'm working on (mini thread): For much of my adult life, I took pride in various exercise goals. Weights, running, cardio programs, etc...whatever the regime, I embraced it, set a goal, & celebrated wins. I haven't celebrated an exercise win in years... /1

Pain is keeping me from sleep, so I’m trying to distract myself…had a lovely beach outing today with my fam and, oh, how I’ll hold onto that feeling for as long as I can. I am so blessed to live here in this beautiful place. 🏖️

I’m very grateful for the rain last night. We needed it. The rain also made it impossible to sleep because camping + rain = misery. Two things can be true at once.

Tonight is show 6/8 of the River Clyde pageant. My youngest is one of the dancers, and I decided to volunteer and be useful. Tonight I get to be a firefly lanterns. Tomorrow and Sunday, I serve meals to people. This community is so special. ❤️
