A hard thing to adjust, when living with chronic pain is not the pain. It's mourning a previous version of you who did not have to factor pain into every single thing. I see people my own age doing cool things, and I wonder about the pain-free version of me, in a parallel universe. What's she up to?

My brag today is I scored a $1599 mattress for $849. Because I like you all, I’ll share how… Sleep Country price matches. So I found the one I wanted and shopped around until I found a comparable one at Costco for $899. SC will price match PLUS 5%. Hence $849 and high 5 me!

I’ve been up 22 hrs now. I’d say I feel like I’m a university student again, minus the whole-body pain.

Slept 11:30-1:30 and apparently that’s all she wrote. Watching the dark fade as the sun rose to reveal all fresh coating of snow was magical, sure, but I’d really like some zzzzs soon, please.

Had a really good appt with pain specialist today. He decided to put my name on the list to try ketamine infusions and, friends, I have some hope. Hope is gold.

And in the latest episode of My Chronic Pain life, today, thankfully, is a much better day. I'm able to work, and I even managed to squeeze in my daily physio this morning. Chronic pain sucks. It also has upped my ability to be grateful for any given (good) moment.

I had plans today. An early-morning dentist appointment. A client meeting. A full workday. All scrapped b/c of pain. Pain that also kept me up most of the night. Managing a chronic pain condition while trying to do Life is impossible some days.

While I'm happy that spring is finally here, this transition is so hard on my sleep and pain levels. My typical 3am pain-wake-up call was 12:45 last night (after only drifting off around 11:30). Up until 5am. Super fun times. #ChronicPain #HEDS #HDS

🛰️ Saw Hail Mary tonight. First, it’s been years since I went to a movie. I was worried I wouldn’t be able to do it but the new (to me) seats are super comfy & let me change position. Win! I also brought aids & pain cream with me so I was good. Second, what a cute film! I need a Rocky plush now.

This is def a Tuesday post long weekend...my pain is high, I started HRT (yay!) and am having temporary side effects as I adjust (boo!), I'm having a period from hell (more boo!), and, oh yeah, there's a complete monster threatening to genocide an entire country w. nuclear power. Good times.

Perks of having older kids: Hiding eggs at 9am instead of at midnight, and upping the difficulty level and watching them try to find them. Little kids are magic, but there are benefits of older kids, too!

Don’t do this! The editors in my network, I’m fairly confident, would never, but I’m sounding the alarm anyway…. Aside from losing credibility w. authors, you’re sharing an author’s IP in a way they never consented to. Plus! AI cannot edit for human emotion. It just can’t. Human 🧠 & ♥️ > 🤖

💯 I don’t let clients email me attachments because of this (I use Gmail—need to switch, yes), so I’ve set up a Canadian, secure, file-sharing space that’s hidden from AI robots. My editorial process is human. I played w. ChatGPT (like most) when it first came out but I’ve not touched it since.

I did not have a terrible doctor's apt. today! This is a huge win for me. I brought my mom as a support person, and I do think that made a difference in how this doctor typically talks to me. Today, I actually felt heard, and she is letting me go forward with the plan I pitched. Phew! #ChronicPain

A note on kindness 🧵: We had an ice/snowstorm overnight which means today is messy. I had a health appointment mid-day so late morning I venture out to scrape ice off car. I get 90% but there’s 10% still high on roof where it was cemented. Of course it decided to slide off … /1

My new pillow. Seriously. I belong to a few hypermobility support groups and people keep raving about Squishmallows as pillows. For your head, yes, but also to support various joints as you sleep. I decided to try it and borrowed one from my 13yo. Sold! Scooped up one of my own today.

Sadly facing another day on hardly any sleep. I think I got an hour. Maybe 2, but broken. Chronic pain is horrid but I could handle it way better if I could sleep.

There’s a huge link between chronic pain and the nervous system so a lot of my pain-regulation work focuses of nervous system work. It’s also the first thing I kick out the door when pressed for time, sadly. Tonight, I dragged my acupressure mat out of retirement and restarted that program.
