There were so many grackles at my feeding station that Ring notified me of a person detected in my back yard. It really was remarkable.

Yesterday, there was ONE red-winged blackbird in my back yard. Today, there are about FIFTY red-winged blackbirds AND grackles back there. It sounds like a goddamned aviary out there. An incredibly raucous and discordant henhouse. JOY!

The best friend I’ve ever had was a big, peculiar, orange cat - quirky as fuck. He was right by my side for 18 years - mad attentive, wicked affectionate, crazy supportive with me. During the last weeks of his life, he taught me how to live in the moment. Exceptional lesson. Superlative companion.

This is the second time in the past week that I’ve seen the world from a decapitated head’s point of view - in my living room, on my television screen.

There are 4 chickadees, 3 tufted titmouses, and 5 bluebirds at my feeding stations - out in 3 feet of pristine, drifted snow right now. 16-year-old me could never have imagined (not ever in a million years) the simple joys 53-year-old me now experiences.

I like it here. I can actually choose whose posts I see. I can see their posts in order. But damn, I sure would like to have the choice of private posts. Also, it would be nice to have more reactions - not only a “like” but a “love,” and a “shit, sorry about that” or “hang in there, kitten” option.

Got a text (“reminds me of you”) & an image (below). My initial reaction - feeling warm & fuzzy. 2nd thought - I could really step up my game w/ hydration & narcan. Final realization - I’m an old hag, haven’t been to a show in YEARS, so happy others are carrying on the concert mom tradition.

I just opened a brand new box of Puffs Plus Lotion. Each box has 124 tissues in it. That means I’ve used more than 248 tissues in the last 72 hours. Actually, it’s more like 48 hours. There’s a math word problem in there. But I’m too tired to spell it out, much less do the calculation.

I woke up with theee world’s wooorst cold. I guess this weekend’s as good a time as any for a winter storm. I’ll be able to play “snowbound plague-house” - a game that was always more fun to play with Gus and Louie. Those cats were both excellent little plague-victim supporting actors.

Truth be told, I really miss MySpace.

I will not pause in any of my activities related to my observation of Black History Month this year (or any year). Or Women’s History & Pride Months (for that matter). Today, I am remembering Matthew Henson. With admiration & respect. I’m a modern seeker - I recognize & revere this early explorer.

For a brief moment during this morning’s sunrise, the sky over the shivering and tangled thicket that I call my backyard was a brilliant lavender. A mother-fucking, mind-melting, almost-fluorescent mauve. How fortunate I was to catch that moment.
