I know that it's a flex now for devs to say they don't hold player's hands during the game. Thing is, you still need to design that game to work well without that handholding. You can't just say you don't hold player's hands and call it a day.

After several weeks I am still having trouble deciding how good I think Crimson Desert really is. Exploring can really feel like a 10/10 experience, while doing the main story or some other faction missions can feel like a 5/10. And there are so many little nuances that feel like it could be better.

For every cool feature I learn about Crimson Desert, there is always something holding it back. I don't think I've ever seen a game deserve a 10/10 in theory but actually playing falls short so dramatically. I'm keeping with it but wish I had more time.

Also in Crimson Desert when a mission asks that I get on my horse, I'm reminded that I have a horse.

A lot of my time in Crimson Desert is exploring, then starting a story mission that tells me to do exactly what I just did while exploring. Then looking up online the actual directions on how to do something since the in game directions must have been written by a prankster God.

Crimson Desert's visuals are a mixed bag in performance mode on the PS5 Pro, but it still has arguably the most realistic looking outdoor environments at 60FPS. And that's not using photo mode.

So been playing Crimson Desert and I have a question to those that have played a lot. How am I supposed to block during combat without using my magic grabby hand? Because it keeps sabotaging me in bigger fights.

I'm looking at you Fallout, Borderlands, and now Crimson Desert when I say I question the sustainability of a world with that ratio of bandits to regular people.

As for Crimson Desert, after playing for several nights for an hour or two each night, I still haven't answered this question: Is it fun? Especially enough to devote months of my short gaming nights? I don't know yet. I'm still getting introduced to new things and getting the hang of it all.

My one problem with Chrono Trigger is who the hell is Crono? Some young guy living with his Mom dressed like nobody else that's apparently skilled with a samurai sword. And by the way, the game just glosses over Lucca and Taban inventing teleportation. I won't consider that a problem though.
