This rock on Mars fractured when the gDRT tool on the rover arm blasted it with nitrogen. Such an explosive effect never happened before and with only 12 psi (0.8 bar) it's difficult to explain. The surface looks almost like wet from an oily substance.

NASA is providing correctly color processed images for high profile situations like public access papers or presentations by management. In fineprint they usually add "white balanced to Earth sunlight" which is technically correct but weasel wording as white balancing isn't really needed on Mars.

The dark sky seen on Earth at 30 km altitude with the @meteomatics.com glider video would be expected to be the visual experience on the Mars surface. But it's much brighter as can be seen daily with NASA Perseverance Rover. Images from sol 1465 and 1463 this week on areo.info/mars20
