M 42 also known as the Orion Nebula. Finally had some patches of clear sky tonight but even then the wind was up and I didn’t want to take the risk of the telescope tipping over, so I only left it out there for a short time. Still, pretty neat what the Seestar could get so quickly #astrophotography

My dad and his navy buddies have been talking as they watch the splashdown. They say the Apollo 17 recovery was a lot faster, but this being a new ship, and more advanced, I would guess it’s just taking a bit longer the shut down or something. #artemis

I like it a lot, but Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is not a 10/10 show. However, this week’s episode had an absolutely 10/10 scene. Amazing acting from Kurt and Wyatt Russell.

Finished reading Project Hail Mary last night. A fun read, although I feel like the movie improved upon the book. Felt the same way with The Martian.

So the month I got a telescope turns out to be the month with the highest cloud cover in Colorado. I wouldn’t complain if it came with some rain, cause we sure need it, but so far not a drop.

In hindsight, they should given #StarTrek III: The Search for Spock a different name, cause that’s the spoileriest title since Return of the King.

Something that stuck with me: there was a video with Chris Hadfield rating space movies and his main criticism of First Man is that it lacked joy. By and large astronauts of any era love what they do. I’m definitely getting that from Integrity crew. #Artemis

Maul: Shadow Lord starting strong. I really like the impressionist city backdrops. Also Kevin Kiner and his whole family judging from the credits are killing it with the score. #StarWars

I want to be cool and take a picture of the moon and post it with a caption saying “there’s people in this shot!” But sadly the moon is really badly positioned for me right now.

Less luck with tonight’s stargazing. Some clouds limiting where I could look for objects. I got some interesting stars in M 44, the Beehive Cluster. Then I was trying to get M 106, a spiral galaxy, but there was a ton of satellite trails. Still got a little structure in it. #astrophotography

My minor space flight connection: in 1972, my dad was in the U.S. Navy helicopter squadron that picked up Apollo 17 (the final original moon mission) when it splashed down. He tells me he doesn’t think he was flying that day, but he remembers shaking an astronaut’s hand when they came on board.
