I may have said this before, but from my perspective, we are living in the era of Peak Star Trek. Considering the quality of S3 of Star Trek Picard, and pick your season of Star Trek SNW, I think this is self-evident.

Today's the day that The Shattering Peace, the new book in the Old Man's War universe, is out in North America (UK, you have two more days). I wrote it to be enjoyable to new readers as well as old hands to the series. I hope you'll pick it up at your favorite bookseller!

One of the notable things about Star Trek is that you can tell stories in about any genre. Four-and-a-Half Vulcans was. The. Funniest. Star Trek. Ever. A wonderful episode that explored character while giving us more laughs than a hold full of tribbles.

While Joan Hickson will always be “my” Miss Marple, we’re re-watching Marple starring Geraldine McEwan and loving it. Not only a great production, we’re seeing the sum total of British acting royalty, including some Doctor Who alumni (and future alumni).

In this week's episode of StarTrek Strange New Worlds, The Sehlat Who Ate Its Tail, Kirk finds himself in the captain's chair of a wrecked starship facing impossible odds. It's a step towards Kirk becoming the captain we all know and love. An immediate classic.

I'm working on the last chapter of my novel and it's quite bittersweet. I quite love the characters in this book and I don't really want to say goodbye to them. Ah well. There'll be more time spent fine-tuning things, but the end is in sight.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds hit another high note with the brilliantly conceived and absolutely hilarious episode, “A Space Adventure Hour.” I can’t wait to use the word … “diction” in a sentence.

I don’t know if 4K streaming wasn’t available from Paramount+ before in Canada, or if maybe I was too cheap to try it. But streaming Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and Star Trek: Picard in 4K is a revelation.

And, in the finest Donna Noble tradition, I slept through it. I can just imagine what she would have said in the morning. “A man? Stepped foot on the moon? Tell me another one.”

We just finished watching the Netflix series A Man on the Inside. Ted Dansen goes undercover in a retirement community to get to the bottom of some thefts. It's funny, heartwarming, and brilliantly written. Pure joy to watch.

I for one very much enjoyed Superman. Busy and overcrowded? Maybe, but also glorious and joyful and at times very funny. As an aside, I’ve always enjoyed Nathan Fillion’s work, but here he’s doing something completely different and pulls it off beautifully.

When the Moon Hits Your Eye is another gem from John Scalzi. The premise is that the moon has turned into cheese. Now what? The tone of the book often resembles that of the coda of Redshirts, with some beautiful, touching human moments. Silly premise? Sure. But a wonderful book, never the less.

There's something about good food that acts like a kind of magic, bringing people together. Nonnas, which we recently watched on Netflix, is full of magic. Joe Scaravella wants to open a family restaurant where the chefs are Italian grandmothers. Don't watch on an empty stomach.

I watched the finale of #DoctorWho a bit late, and of course it was impossible to avoid spoilers. Even so, not every surprise was spoiled, and, despite, the spoilers, I can say that my mind was officially blown. What a beautiful way to bring together the two seasons.
