Progress on the SOMUA tonight. The DEFModel PE has been a joy to work with. Not super tedious and well thought out part replacement. Only thing I'll skip, I think, will be some grab handles because the molded ones look pretty ace already

Okay, #histscalemodels. After how much fun I had with the R35 I wanted to do something else either small, or French, both. Enter the SOMUA S35. I've got an Aber metal barrel, DefModel PE, Friulmodel tracks AND I have a couple of figures coming that will serve to tell a very interesting story.

Figured out the Cricut- all on my own, #histscalemodels! Made some RENAULT stencils for the brick wall in my R35 scene. This is a very handy piece of equipment for anyone who is able to get their hands on one. If not and you need stenciling work done let me know and I'll see if I can help.

Looks like a half-track, but this steam powered plough's tracks are the front of the vehicle. Described in 1859, this one of many tracked vehicles developed for agriculture in Britain. The "systems of steam culture" proselytized by wealthy agriculturalists and inventors inevitable led to modern AFVs

Well, #histscalemodels, I appear to have gotten totally sidetracked on the R35 today. Thanks to @kitsandcoffee.bsky.social's suggestion for a Renault advert on a brick wall, I changed my scene a bit. Absolutely for the better. Now to let this all dry and think of how many details I can cram in.

The last component of my Antarctic M29C scene has arrived! These adorable Gentoo penguins are 3D printed resin from Open Range Miniatures, which I can highly recommend.

Whew! That was a lot of paint for such a little vehicle. Post shading complete. This needs about a day to cure before I seal it with a satin layer for washes and decals. #histscalemodels.

We got curious after hearing about this. It smells... uh, bad. Like a diaper full of piss and medical waste surrounded by burning tires. Quite pungent. It lingers in the sinuses. Highly recommend.

I've also been working on this Ma.K vignette for fun. It's a creek with the ruins of a stone wall with a couple of trees. The stone wall needs some mortar and then it's ready for paint and resin! #scalemodels

Was at my LHS when I spied this on the discount table. $8 for two kits and two Miniart figures? I didn't even ask questions, I just bought it. Get home and discover the reason it was discounted was that it lacks an entire sprue! Shame because it's a nice model! Unfortunately Vision Models is MIA...

#histscalemodels, this is the exact same kit built by brands with very different attitudes towards model making. One is a product image from ICM for the M1097A2, and one is from Revell. A thoughtful modeler can produce a nice model; a careless one will not. The quality of the kit seldom matters.

Goodness, what have I gotten myself into, #histscslemodels? Sheridan for scale. Spent today's workbench time knocking this together and working on the Ma.k suit instead of painting said Sheridan, but I want to have a few things to paint and weather all at once now that the summer is winding down.

I have not stopped giggling since I opened the box. Yes, this was my totally ridiculous model purchase, and with it I will create an homage to one of Jurassic Park's most iconic scenes, although with AK's Series II Land Rover instead of a 1992 Jeep Wrangler. Experimenting with AL'S snow products while primer cures on the Sheridan. This is the snow terrain paste with snow microballoons over top. Trying to find a convincing "melted slush" for inside footprints but so far no joy.

Build phase of the Sheridan is competent, #histscalemodels. Tomorrow I'll get some primer on it and maybe start work on the base. I apologize for the potato quality photos, I'm too bushed to break out the light box and due to the various subassemblies there isnt anything cohesive to look at.

Taking a little bit of a swing with this color primer, #histscalemodels. The idea is that since SGT Richard is butt nekkid, I need some warm tissue tones under neath the skin tones. Then I'lll use Tamiya Buff to further warm him up. Finally, I can then apply a glaze of normal flesh colors. 🤞

Strap in, guys! This morning I wax poetic about the nature of "realism" in scale models. This thread was inspired by @sensiblearchie.bsky.social's post of a 1971 modeling magazine and it's tragically painted figures.

It gets worse the more you look at it.

I'm aware that figures are supposed to add to a vehicle or scene #histscalemodels, but I keep finding that my excitement for projects is directly linked to how cool of a figure I have sourced for it. Take this Black Dog Polar Explorer, who will go with my M29 Weasel Arctic Exploration Vehicle. 🤩

The RFM tracks are pretty decent, #histscalemodels. Not as quick to assemble as PanzerWerk (or Quick tracks) but quite strong. I used diluted PVA to secure the pins and they should hold up nicely to handling and painting/weathering. Meanwhile, I freed Sgt. Richard and got him set for painting.
