Very sad to hear that Dr Graham Lawler, who published my crime science book, has recently died. He was a major figure in mathematics education as well as the publisher of a wide range of books.

Just finished The Real Happy Valley by Alice Vinten - terrific accounts of the bravery and compassion of real women police officers in Yorkshire. Highly recommended!

Science tip for authors. If your detective suspects a white powder is cocaine, don't have them taste it or rub it on their gums to see if it makes them numb. If it turned out to be fentanyl it could kill them!
