Starting October 1st, I'll be posting something new every day for my MONTH OF MONSTERS! It's been a while since I've done a fun illustration series, and this has been a blast! I've been drawing my favorite monsters from movies, cartoons, and video games! You *might* be surprised by some of my picks!

Our little kitten Chloe is SERIOUS about playtime! I never get tired of seeing her smash through things.

I want the monsters in my DnD campaign to be menacing and creepy as heck--this is one of my favorites! An undead Rhino Bear that serves the Undying Empire. At least he was, until my players went a few rounds with him.

The players in my DnD campaign recently entered the lands of Stone, the elemental god of earth. And so they had to meet some of Stone's people, like the mysterious Pebbles, Bramble the satyr, and Caldera. Fantasy stuff is so fun to play around with, right??

In my DnD campaign, I've established these elemental gods that the players have to deal with. They recently met Stone, who may or may not be a god-shaped stone statue that communicates through tremors in the earth.

I've been playing in a Daggerheart game as Cameo the Chameleon, and I've been LOVING the new TTRPG system!! And also, I love my little guy.

A challenge of DMing a DnD campaign is introducing cool NPCs who offer fun possibilities without the expectation that they join every battle. Casper Crescendo uses illusion magic, and Ragna Wolfsbane can wildshape but not cast spells.

I love creating fantastical creatures based on animals for my DnD campaign, and I absolutely adore these two snail guys: Pummel and Pip! They may need to go off and have their own adventures, because I'm dying to draw them some more!

I brought Lucia the Luminous into my DnD campaign as a mysterious new NPC with strange powers and secret motivations. She's an Aasimar warlock, and she's definitely been a chaotic addition to our campaign! (Along with her Faerie Dragon familiar Sparky!)

In my DnD campaign, the Lightkeepers are a rigid, theocratic order who are currently in a tentative alliance with my players. I wanted Derrick Fairweather to be a formidable paladin with an outrageous haircut. Serafina Duskbane was a stern Inquisitor who...did not survive very long.

My DnD campaign is set in a fantastical land of Zumara, and the players are stranded there. I wanted to make some fun, suitably exotic animals, especially since I have a druid player who wants to meet and talk to all of them! 🤣 These are some bunny badgers and a gliding monkey!

I brought two new players into my DnD campaign, and I loved both immediately. They're a married elf couple named...Elvis and Elvira. 🤣 Elvis is a dragon researcher and archeologist who tells long rambling stories as a bard. Elvira is the tough-as-nails ranger who keeps her husband out of trouble.

Given that I wanted my DnD campaign to feel epic and mysterious, I *had to* reveal that an important NPC was secretly a dragon in as dramatic a way as possible. I built up to it forever, and I don't think any of my PCs guessed before the big reveal!! Definitely a highlight of the campaign so far!

Some of the creeps from the Undying Empire who serve as antagonists in my DnD campaign! They're Victorian necromancers who run an empire powered by legions of the undead. Their names are Orpheus Morningstar, Dagna Scargrave, Elara Boneblade, and Mort Featherweight. I kind of love all of them. 💀

In Rome, we stumbled across this incredible exhibit of Yoshitaka Amano's work! I was familiar with his comics and videogame illustrations, but seeing it all in person was frankly jaw-dropping. My favorite pieces were his entirely original ones--I'm all about that sexy centaur warrior! 1/3

I saw this astonishing mural in Florence's Medici Riccardi Palace by Luca Giordano. At first, it was just a confusing mess to me, but as I spent time with it, I was obsessed. The sense of space, light, and depth are incredible, and the stylization of the human form feels so contemporary! 1/2

I love finding weird animals in old paintings! I made a point of looking for any I could find when I was visiting Florence and Rome recently. Needless to say, I found A LOT of good ones! (And one very good, real cat.) 1/2

One of the sculptures I was most excited to see in Italy was the Apennine Colossus by Giambologna in the Parco Pratolino outside Florence. He's 11 meters high and has entire rooms inside of him. My only regret is that I couldn't get any closer!! Maybe if I had brought a kayak...🤔

This weekend, my DnD group met ⚡Thun-Darr the Storm Lord⚡ and his Titan! It was an absolute blast. I had been building up to it for the whole campaign, had all kinds of big surprises in store for my players, and they *still* came up with a plan I hadn't anticipated! 10 out of 10

More art from my DnD campaign! I've been playing around with a lot of different tools and textures. These are all drawn traditionally using a Pentel Art Brush, Tombow Fudenosuke brushpen, Cretacolor pencils, china markers, etc. It's all a little messy, but I'm learning to appreciate that! 😅

I've been on an incredible binge re-reading The Savage Dragon by @eriklarsen.bsky.social and revisiting a million moments that totally shaped my childhood imagination. 🤯 Did this quick sketch on Dewdul.com of the original finhead himself! 💚

I've been reading Walt Simonson's classic run on Thor and was inspired to try a different approach with my inking! These are done with a G-nib on Deleter comic paper.

I sat down to draw some D&D monsters, and they all ended up being super cute. Oops! Here's a lil' Bullywug, an Aarakocra, a Banshee, and a Beholder!
