The new Safe Standing area opens today at last, over 34 years since the last standing tickets on the Kop were sold. The area gives fans a choice to stand at games with the club’s blessing, and the hope is that this will also add to the atmosphere for the benefit of all at the ground #bskyblades

Tonight’s venue, the Stadium of Light, is a new safe standing provider in this yr’s Championship. In the summer, they introduced safe standing in the upper sections of both the South (~2,000 capacity) and North (~1,000) stands. This followed pressure from the SGSA to address persistent standing.

A good bit of the opening statement from the new owners on the importance of the fans. While there are lots of potential areas to invest in, there is too a real opportunity here to invest in the fans and look at ways to enhance the atmosphere. Safe standing has to be a part of that investment.

A trip to the Welsh capital in store for #bskyblades on Saturday. The Cardiff City Stadium was one of the 5 grounds that were trialled 3 years ago. Just over 1,300 standing capacity in the home end. In this familiar away end in the corner, nearly 2,200 of the 2,875 tickets are safe standing.
