In a vacuum it's a perfectly fine button layout, you just need to design the game around it. Of course, that was a bit of a problem when the other two systems at the time used the traditional diamond layout.

So, I've identified the bug that makes the Javatari emulator (as featured on my site) run slowly on Firefox. As it turns out, my monitor's refresh rate is the culprit. Strangely, at higher refresh rates, the games actually run more slowly.
