When I took out student loans for grad school, no one explained the difference between a compound interest vs. a simple interest loan. My car loan? Simple. Student loans? Compounding. The hole keeps growing, making it almost impossible to pay off.

The Rich and Powerful consider the sick, poor, non-white, and elderly as parasites of humanity. My career centers around caring for these very people; the most vulnerable of society. So, by extension, my work is worthless in their eyes.

I owed around $4 on my student loan after paying off the full amount. That was interest accrued in 5 days before the payment posted. I paid an additional $7.50. I requested a refund of the balance, which they intended to keep. Got the check today! Petty? Nope. It’s my money.

Thrifting the other day, I talked someone out of making a truly heinous purchase. She was looking at some wood elephant statues. I said, “I tend to avoid elephants in my home decor, you know, for fear of making the wrong impression.” She thought about it, then agreed. 😂

People who don’t participate in democracy because “politics doesn’t affect me” are complicit in the mess we are in right now.

Today I saw a member of our local militia group wearing a T-shirt bearing the name of his group. His multiple tattoos seemed to scream “I’m so AMERICAN!” His group participated in J6. Under his friendly demeanor is white supremacist rhetoric. So weird.

Just finished The Four Winds by Kristin Hannah. Set in the Great Depression. Remarkably current themes about the dangers of unchecked capitalism and oligarchy. Highly recommend.

I paid off my student loans a month ago. Today, I received an email from the DOE that I was delinquent in my monthly payment. The sense of panic I felt! Called my provider. They said it’s taking 3 months or more for the DOE to process payoffs. Nice. Government efficiency? Hardly. Thanks, DOGE.

May is mental health awareness month. While at a thrift store, they were playing a Christian radio station. The DJ recognized the month, but followed it with “Just pray to God, and your mental health problems will go away!” Yikes. What a terrible narrative to preach.

What’s happening to Adriana Smith is cruel to her and her family. And who is paying for her care? If the state is mandating this, they should have to pay, not the family. Because we all know insurance won’t.

Do you know what hoops you have to jump through to get Medicaid? It’s a long process. Any social worker, case manager, or healthcare provider can attest to this. Cuts will affect access for everyone. #savemedicaid

Happy Mother’s Day! It’s baffling that the US values productivity above all else, exploits its workforce, and makes it nearly impossible to afford to work when you have kids. The same government that is pushing pronatalism also thinks new mothers and babies can take care of themselves.
