It’s finally here – work has started to revitalise Bulwell Bogs and the market. I’m incredibly proud to have fought for this money as a local MP and to have been responsible for delivering it as a government minister.

Last week, Labour announced £9bn to renew Armed Forces family housing across the country; the biggest investment in more than 50 years. Now we’re ramping up investment into new VALOUR hubs, which will support 2,865 veterans right here in Nottingham North and Kimberley.

This Armistice Day we pause to remember all those who have died serving our country, and to express our gratitude to those who serve today.

I'm delighted that Mayor Claire Ward has secured an additional £19 million of government funding to build more than 750 homes in the region. This funding will help deliver the high-quality homes that people need and bring brownfield land back into use.

Last week I had the pleasure of visiting the site of the new Kimberley Hub, where building work is progressing quickly. Thanks to the hard work of Kimberley Town Council and Broxtowe Borough Council for getting this government funding spent on creating a valuable community asset.

Too many people have been sold a dream that if they come to this country, they will be housed in a hotel and be able to work illegally. We have to break this model. As part of this, we have carried largest enforcement crackdown on illegal working since records began.

I know that securing Britain’s borders is important to you, and it’s a priority for this Labour government. I told Sky News how we are ramping up raids against employers who are using illegal workers, and pushing for stronger rules to deport foreign criminals.

I'm really proud of the Renter’s Rights Bill and today it is finally in force. Life will be better for renters in Nottingham and Kimberley, with no more fixed term tenancies and no more no-fault evictions. This is the difference a Labour government makes.

This government is committed to helping everyone who can work to find work. Last week I dropped into the Bulwell Jobcentre to meet the new service leader and talk about how we can work together to help people in Nottingham and Kimberley.

Labour are ramping up processing for asylum seekers, so that those in legitimate need can move on to rebuilding their lives, and those with no claim are returned as quickly as possible.

Recently, I had a chance to meet with the Romanian Roma community in Nottingham. It was really valuable to hear about the challenges they face and their ideas for how local services could better support them.

At last week’s Labour Conference I visited some stalls that constituents had encouraged me to, to hear about their priorities and give them my support.

Recently I joined local residents, councillors and staff for a walk around Southglade Park. It’s always a beautiful walk, and we had a chance to pick up a few opportunities for improvements around the park.

Last week I visited Royal Mail’s Bulwell delivery office. It was great to be shown around and see how they organise the huge amount of deliveries they get every day, and to have a chat about plans to deal with nearby parking issues.

I was on East Midlands Politics on Sunday talking about my new role in the Home Office. By delivering a returns agreement with France and removing tens of thousands of people with no valid claim to be here, Labour is removing incentives for people to come here in small boats.

Today Labour is introducing the Hillsborough Law, putting a duty of candour on public officials, and expanding legal aid for bereaved families. This is for the 97, their families who fought for justice, and everyone who has been let down by the state, from Windrush to Grenfell.

Yesterday I visited Torridge to see how communities there are investing over £20m from the government including transforming The Globe Hotel into a community training centre and modernising Bideford Pannier Market.

I was honoured to be the special guest at the Midlands Nepali Mela last month. It was a fantastic occasion to celebrate the contributions of the Nepali community to our city and I was blown away by the hospitality I was shown.

The English Devolution and Community Empowerment Bill is back in Parliament today. Labour is giving communities first refusal when assets of community value are put on sale, like youth clubs, leisure centres, sports grounds and pubs.

Recently I had the chance to have a walk around Top Valley with the Police and Crime Commissioner and local councillors. There have been investments in the area to help tackle anti-social behaviour, but if you’re experiencing issues I want to hear from you.

If you can’t tell, that’s the Bulwell High Road traffic light hiding in that tree. It’s obviously unsafe, so I worked with local Bulwell councillors to get the tree trimmed back and now it’s looking much better. Let me know if there are any issues near you that need attention!

Recently I visited Bestwood Pharmacy along with Community Pharmacy Notts to hear about the important work they do for the local area. I heard about some of the challenges that local pharmacies face when serving their patients, which I’ll be raising with the minister.

It was an honour to raise the flag this morning at Kimberley War Memorial to mark the 80th anniversary of VJ Day. We will always remember the courage and sacrifice of those who served to secure peace and freedom for future generations.

I was out with the Toy Library for the second time this week today, this time out at Bulwell Hall Park for National Play Day. It was great to see so many families enjoying themselves and making use of the space - a huge thanks to the Toy Library for all their hard work.

From today the UK is at the forefront of clamping down on people smugglers. The world’s first sanction regime dedicated to targeting people smuggling will target the assets of anyone complicit – including financiers and small boat sellers - and ban them from entering Britain.

There are currently four separate regulators for the water industry, making it hard to get action and easy to pass the buck. Labour is replacing them with one robust regulator with the power to get things done.
