"Our aim was to offer something cheaper than hotels or standard B&Bs, an affordable place for feminists and lesbians to stay in London. And for us to meet women from other countries."

Our next article is 'My time at the London Irish Women's Centre' Angie Birtill speaking to Ann Rossiter. "Most of the women were forging new lives in London. We supported their basic needs, and provided a space to express and develop their cultural identity within a feminist framework."

Today's article is 'Inside and Out: complexities and contradictions in the WLM' by Paddy Tanton. "Being a part of the WLM taught me that we have to challenge and undermine the patriarchal concept of biological determinism and its attendant gender and race ideology."

Next up is 'Women's Books, Bristol' by Janet Brewer. "We stocked not only the ground-breaking overview books which explained women’s position in society, but practical books to help with specific aspects of our lives."

Today's article is 'Discovering You Are Other' by Di Parkin. "I had a copy of Simone de Beauvoir’s The Second Sex when I was in sixth form in 1963. The headteacher confiscated it because it had a naked woman on the cover; however not before I had read about the concept of woman as other..."

Next up is 'Becoming and Being a Feminist' by Jeanne Rathbone. "The 1980s were a crucial time for issues around diversity. Initiatives on gender, race, ethnicity, discrimination and inequality were begun in academia, education and local government."

Today's article is another one by Frankie Green - this time on 'Women’s Liberation Music in the 1970s'. "Feminist music-making incorporated politics not only in lyrics but in striving toward a different way of living, collective working, radical production values, creating political culture."

Next up is 'Feminism, squatting, housing: memories of 70s/80s Islington' by Frankie Green. "Squatting was then a legal, age-old practice, with evictions supposed to follow due process. We undertook it for political and personal reasons..."

Second is 'Mismatch: How I Became a Feminist' by Sona Osman. "In this piece of writing I would like to explain the circumstances and life experiences which led me to a feminist way of thinking which has driven most of my life and has propelled me into a life rich of adventures and experiences..."
