Weird dream last night where I agreed to play guitar for a gig and once I got there I remembered I don't actually play the guitar. In my dream I was having intense feelings of anxiety and failure which stayed with me for a bit post wake-up. The brain is a wonderous but sometimes fucked up machine.

I'm rebuilding my GitOps cluster configuration from scratch and it's nice to revisit things I have had in place for a few years to see if better practices exist. I'm using a lot more Server-Side-Apply to deal with existing OpenShift resources that just need some tweaks like a new label.

My son started his first IT contract job back in August and went full-time in February. Today he came to me and said that work wants him to learn about Kubernetes. I'm so happy I'll get to download some knowledge onto him, also looking forward to adding him as a tenant in my homelab :)

Upgraded my home network with the Ubiquiti Dream Router 7, a Flex 2.5-8 PoE switch and an access point. The advanced networking capabilities it has versus my old Asus gaming router is pretty amazing. The Ubiquiti eco-system is addictive though, I already have a UNAS2 and a Flex 5 switch on the way.

Selling a couple of older laptops so installing Windows on them, I forgot how slow this process is compared to installing Linux from scratch.

Trying out Cursor to write a reverse proxy in Go for llama-stack and so far it's working pretty well. On the plus side it's easy to get a workable solution up and running, on the negative side I'm not learning as much about Go if I did it by hand.

Doing some work with the llama-stack/OpenAI Responses API and it feels like Typescript union fields are great for API producers but much less so for API consumers as far as I can tell. Wish typescript had better plumbing here so I don't have to do a bunch of type-guarding.

"kubectl diff" isn't a diff in the conventional sense, it's more of a "what would happen if I run 'kubectl apply' on this file." Kubernetes has to deal with multiple controllers updating different fields on the same resource, schemas, etc and this is why diff is not always intuitive in kubectl.

Trying out the Ghostty terminal again after an update on Arch, some good improvements everywhere. The main thing it is still missing is a scrollbar but I'm going to try getting by with a keybinding to move forwards and backwards between prompts. ghostty.org
