Sage's sense of smell is keen. He can smell magic, sadly it is not different from other people and the sense can be fooled but he mostly akins it to the smell of a storm, crisp, clean, and when lightning strikes, pungent and alive.

Sage hands grief in various ways, memories from childhood pets dying still cause bittersweet hurts..but Aidor, a human he was friends with as a child, who was old enough to be his Father, and one day 'vanished' made him feel real grief, it was decades ago, it still hurts. (music included cont)
