I allowed this man to make me angry. I screamed. What I should have said is “I pity you. It must be frightening to live in a world you can never hope to understand & be bested by the very women you hoped to enslave. How demoralising. How emasculating to be outdone by those u feel are inferior to u.

What an arse. What a bellend. What a disappointment. At 44 years old I realise that the culture I grew up in is TOXIC. Women are not trophies or objects to be groped. Insular, white, privileged societies are often inbred, limited and reductive.

To look at people who were different from me with kindness & curiosity - not fear. This man: touching me without permission, assuming my body is on display FOR HIM! Ridiculing my intellect, morality politics.

But I’ve ALWAYS been different. My mum was a feminist. So were my brothers & father. I was brought up to think beyond the village I lived in.

“You with your t*ts out flirting!” Growing up in rural Worcestershire this was my youth. Men taking whatever they wanted, doing whatever they wanted and saying whatever they wanted because “that’s how things are round here”.

But it reminded me. It’s easy to become small to fit the culture you are born into. It takes courage & brains to step beyond and think, care and communicate with empathy, compassion & intellect.

I miss writing a blog or voicing opinions but was badly burned by doing so in the past. Essentially, despite NEVER revealing where I work I have essentially had to curtail my own expression for fear of losing employment. 😔

When did UK schools stop allowing tours by prospective applicants prior to completing an application? It takes forever to fill in an application form & covering letter. Aligning with hatred because your own hate is eating you up is a BAD LOOK.

I wish I could take “hyper focused Cate” & “disassociating Cate” & mix them up to get a sort of average. Maybe then I might be reasonably functioning most of the time instead of kangaroo-ing between states like a pissed up learner driver in an old diesel banger. #ADHD #HyperFocus #Dissassociation

Here’s an #ADHD thought. I’m 43 this month. At what point does people taking about my “potential” move from flattering to irritating/slightly critical? Like, I KNOW I could do more. It’s the single most frustrating thing in my life!! “Potential” but no focus or impetus! 🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️😔

I don’t think I do master things though. I think I flit because eventually something or someone upsets me or visa versa. I speak my mind & have a strong sense of justice & I think I feel like I have to move on some times because I’m “troublesome” or disruptive. Always have been. 😔

I could have written this! I am the same. Perhaps it's less about mastery in terms of 'you have ticked all the boxes' and more about having a strong sense of when you are no longer getting enough out of an experience and need something else. Its exhausting but I think its a strength in many ways!

Totally shamed today by someone because I haven’t “stuck” at one job. I’ve never felt more like an outsider or more “different”. I never feel like I “fit”. #ADHD
