I'm teaching a psych class to 70 first year students for the first time, ever. For some, my class will be their first college class. Does anyone have an activity you to the first day/week of class w/ first-years to help them feel connected, get to know classmates, & start on a good foot?

This semester I taught a special topics class, the Social Psychology of #Survivor. It was the 1st time I taught this class & wasn’t sure how it would go; to say the class was awesome is an understatement! We watched Survivor, we played Survivor, & we had amazing guests join us via zoom! 🧵1/n

One thing to know about me is that I absolutely despise people who do not return their shopping cart to the cart corral. I spotted this outside of Target today. This person made it mere feet from the entrance and just decided, eh, this is good enough. No, no it is not good enough.

Since being elected & re-elected the President of our Academic Senate, I’ve learned that at least 6 of my colleagues pray for me regularly. 1. I’m sincerely touched by this. 2. I’m also me, so I turned it into a stress metric. How am I doing? Well, no one new told me they pray for me, so I’m okay!

I know Caroline told Sue not to play the idol for her, but last night’s episode of #survivor47 showed us that Sue really could have played her idol for Caroline w/o ruining her game—bc she didn’t need it for herself. Realizing that while sitting on the Jury had to have been tough for Caroline 😩🫶🏼

This morning, my daughter (4 yo) asked to watch “the show with the puppets who have colorful bodies and sleep on colorful beds and go through a hole in the ground.” I eventually figured it out. Does anyone want to guess what show she was describing?

I made holiday dalgona cookies for a friendly family competition. It took several hours to make 8 reasonably acceptable cookies, two tablespoons of sugar at a time. Two things: 1. I will never make another dalgona cookie as long as I live. 2. I better win this competition.

Detecting AI in student papers... This is my 1st semester teaching a class w/ a required paper since the ChatGPT boom. What are the best practices regarding detecting AI in student papers? My uni uses Turnitin which has an AI detector. I also have other samples of each student's writing. Advice?

I was in my office today when I heard this bizarre chime-ringing type of noise. I had never heard it before and had no idea where it was coming from. It was my office telephone ringing; someone was calling me. Who knew.

I woke up this morning with the same rights over my body that white men have had in Ohio since, well forever. Every single state that has tried to ban women's bodily autonomy has lost. I'm happy today but still enraged that women's rights are deemed debatable. They aren't debatable in Ohio anymore.

I’m at a concert and the average age is easily 45, and anyone who leaves their seat is absolutely incapable of finding their seat again. Middle-aged people are just pacing up and down the aisle, unable to find the row they’re sitting in and I’m watching like 🤔🫣🤯

Just drove past a house with about 5 women dressed up as witches sitting around a fire pit drinking in the front yard. Propped up against a tree in the yard, a sign with “U honk, we drink” spray painted on it. We honked, they raised their cups to us and drank. It was awesome.

I’m taking paxlovid for this bout of COVID and I have the most disgusting metallic taste in my mouth (very common side effect of the medicine). For folks who have had this side effect, were you able to do anything to get rid of this horrible, horrible taste?

Tested positive for COVID-19 this morning. Second time I’ve had COVID; second time I’ve had COVID during a university break. I guess I’m just not supposed to enjoy breaks.
