Four months since my last post... Oof. I haven't really made much progress on new content but I went back and refactored some ancient code and fixed several different bugs in battle. Refactoring some of my old code helped tremendously with speed issues in battles that I created accidentally. (1/2)

Major updates behind the scenes but not something noticeable to players. All event code of the game is now in a "readable format", term used very lightly. With that, I've been moving all the updated events back into their original data, which saves a lot of ROM space. #GameDev #TalesOfPhantasia

Been making different kinds of progress on Tales of Phantasia (SNES). I've been exporting the game's events and dumping them, disgustingly, so I can modify them and have full control over the entire game's events without having hackney code that I do now.

Played through the beginning of the game up to the start of the Future arc. Found a couple major game breaking bugs that are now fixed. One of them has plagued the project for years now and I wasn't able to figure it out until recently! Fixed a horde of little annoying bugs as well.

Actually I lied, I forgot to include. Rhea Scarlet is now a playable guess character! She was legitimately meant to be playable, much like Brambard who HAD images, but got scrapped. #TalesOfPhantasia #Namco #SNES #GameDev

Aaaand we'll top it off with the Rheabirds (Techbirds) being completely dynamic now. Before, it was limited to only the 5 main cast. It now supports all NINE characters in this version! #TalesOfPhantasia #Namco #SNES #GameDev

The "Tactics" menu has been 100% revamped in every way now. It's not the best, but this allows MUCH more control of what the AI characters do. Although, the AI is still such a WIP. Shit is tough man. #TalesOfPhantasia #Namco #SNES #GameDev

Chester now has artes like later versions of him! He will have a few unique artes in this version too. "Shuuga" or "Striking Fang" is one of them. This'll be his first arte learned. Basically a high damage energy arrow. #TalesOfPhantasia #Namco #SNES #GameDev

One of Brambard's unique spells. If anyone's played Tales of the Abyss, they'll know this spell instantly from Natalia. Aqua Protection. This will grant 15% defense boost for the entire battle time. (Barrier from Mint will increase by 25% for 30 seconds) #TalesOfPhantasia #Namco #SNES #GameDev

Ice Needle has been redone to be more akin to Narikiri Dungeon 3/TOP PS1. The higher level the user, the more needles that come out. The damage with each needle gets less but it deals, still, high damage even at high levels. #TalesOfPhantasia #SNES #Namco #GameDev

Arche now also has Black Hole that isn't an instant death spell. The SNES version originally did that, made it deal "Dark" damage now. Also, hilarious, "Dark" element did not exist in the SNES. Shadow was actually considered a light elemental spirit. 🙃 #TalesOfPhantasia #SNES #Namco #GameDev
