Working on a tech spike for @ermiltd.bsky.social and finding it exceptionally satisfying. It’s a puzzle… finding a process which avoids high risk things (storing secrets or sensitive data) while also keeping it fast, simple and affordable :) I do love a fun puzzle :)

I imagine @nadiawhittomemp.bsky.social will be getting the usual abuse for speaking out - solidarity with her and all those fighting against hate manipulated by the wealthy right gleefully creating a distracting wedge issue

More tummy issues over the weekend but they are passing. I need to be super super careful with food + food timing… or tummy goes wrong rapidly. Beyond that, all is well. Excited for the week ahead at tech share pro!

One of the most ND things I experience is a complete lack of ‘friendship decay’… I can be friends with someone…. Not talk for a year and pick up right where we left off. Friendships just kinda ‘are’. It’s kinda epic. Especially when someone else has the same dynamic.

Watched kpop demon hunters over the weekend and really enjoyed it. Never been interested in kpop before … but one of my friends was excited for it so we watched it together and it was ace. So damn catchy. The ‘soda pop’ song has been bouncing around my brain all morning :)

I had a similar experience with an iPad a while back. Jumped me three generations as they couldn’t repair an issue with the power button / touchID. It’s nice when it works out this way :)

The best neurodivergent inclusion can be kinda invisible. It’s going somewhere and seamlessly being able to use my AAC. It’s being given time to process options, or make a decision. It’s spaces with careful lighting + noise design. Solving little day to day barriers so everyone can thrive :)

I wish I knew more about sensory needs and how it overlaps with things I can do. It took literally 5 years to work out that my ability to understand & do things can be entirely flattened by the wrong sensory environment. Eg, Can’t get dressed in a loud room. Can’t read if chair has wrong texture

The derpy drop has been pretty intense today. Makes sense… first day back on ADHD meds after a long break. Wondering if I’ve eaten to little so meds haven’t properly worn off yet. Going to find some food and see if my brain perks up a bit.

I’ve found this with my Switch 2. The ability to physically zoom by bringing the screen right in close makes a lot of game text readable to me. So much so I’ve been able to play animal crossing without my glasses :)

Found a fun technical solution to a problem today :) Nice to have my body and brain working again. Excited for more nerdy stuff tomorrow.

It isn't really hard.They don't want the structure of power to change. What is currently taking place is not "American politics as usual" but to do something about it and differently means the dreams of pre-2000 political status quo cronyism between the two parties is truly dead.

Today has been really really good. Heaps of life admin backlog cleared and did a huge bedroom / bathroom / kitchen reset with help from support folks. Blood test in a bit. Then if I have enough spoons left. Maybe go do physio at the pool.

Emails and stuff done. Yay Still a bit unwell with tummy stuff so going to take it slow… focus on sorting my bedroom out… it always degrades when I’m unwell and it needs a proper reset.

GP has also ordered a bunch of blood tests. Off to do those today Beyond that…. I’ve got a backlog of emails and paperwork to catch up on for various events and stuff. So far so good. ADHD meds seem to be working better now tummy stuff is sorted. Curious how they go over a few days :)

Woo for GP yesterday. Really helpful. Trying a second type of tummy meds to see if we can solve the re-occurring sickness and tummy aches. The first set helped lots & these should work better Started those today & did some very small ADHD meds to reboot my sleep cycle a little. Slowly slowly :)

Been up and down getting better from tummy stuff. Def on a good path. But still very snoozy. Seeing dr tomorrow to review tummy meds and make some decisions about what to do next.

It’s kinda frustrating that the behaviour of large commercial AI companies has somewhat poisoned the well on the underlying LLM tech. It’s astonishing what open source, low power, ethically trained models can do (like the EU funded: eurollm.io) It’s easy for it to be missed :(

Wooo! Up and awake 4 hours earlier today. Slowly getting back to my normal self :) Just had a little caffeine to help get me booted. I’ve been mostly offline for a week and I’ve got about 60 proper emails to answer and logistics for 3 events to work out. Will make a start today :)

Woohoo. Slept really good. New tummy meds seem to work really well :) It’s a bit complicated to explain but it’s the combo of side effects of having no gallbladder… turbocharged by mounjaro… then made more complicated by food sensitivities. Slowly rebuilding one slice of toast at a time :)

Ended up in hospital today to work out tummy issues. Was really impressed with NHS. Fast, knowledgable and very kind. Especially when I was in a lot of pain and struggling to string words together (AAC or aloud). Home again now. New tummy meds to try, already less pain & nausea.

Had another 12 hours of being sick every 3ish hours. Hard to stay hydrated but doing best I can. We thought this had stopped. Chat with 111 later today if no improvement.

3 days of throwing up has been rough. Ewww. Slowly getting back to normal :)

Have decided to take a nice long pause on the ADHD meds for a bit. They just aren’t working very well right now with the mounjaro and i really don’t like this combo. I can shape my life to make it work. Tweak the blend of things I do away from the intense dev stuff to the more floaty stuff.

Slightly grim realisation tonight. I’ve been using the ADHD meds so long that my life kinda requires them. If I wanted to stop them I’d have to redesign my life from the ground up to make it work. That’s not a nice feeling. A little regret there. I’d like to change that in the long run.

Woke up early with an idea for a project so I’ve spent the last few hours working through a bunch of statistics and working on a little experiment :) Yay for interesting problems to play with.

Hearing a lot of great stories about accessibility and inclusion at No Kings. People providing transportation to and from the event. People wearing N95s! People ensuring the routes were wheelchair accessible. People setting up virtual events. Thank you for including disabled comrades!

For example, postcode, gender & age within a 10 year bound can take ‘anyone in the UK’ down to 1-5 people in most cases. Removing a name is not the same as correctly masking and protecting confidential or private data. The things ya learn doing financial crime detection tools :)

The ‘puzzle piece’ effect is real :) It’s a super common chat I have with researchers who confuse the difference between confidential (I know and won’t tell) and anonymous (we don’t know so we can’t tell). Maintaining anonymity is hard… It only takes a few puzzle pieces to work out who someone is

Very slow start today… all good tho. Starting the day prodding more ERMI ruleset and documentation stuff… then some marketing stuff… then playing with some interesting questions for an accessibility client :) Much woosh!!

Okay… I know I sorta give everything a personality… but I setup a system yesterday so my game development test bench could help my little MacBook run some LLM based experiments… I sorta imagine the little Mac going “heyyy…. Erm… could ya give me a hand…” and the PC lending it some GPU cycles :)

This was my 4th non buggy trip into the city. Sitting down is still hella complex, so few seats are compatible with my tailbone injury… spent most of the event stood up or sitting wonky on one butt cheek & hoping for the best. But… it’s deeply surreal to be doing this stuff again :)

Yesterday was so much fun! Spent the day going deep on open banking API stuff, then had a play with a funky dataset… then went to an amazing accessibility meet up in the evening. Feels good! Having a slow start today but I’ve got a massive smile. Squee. Life is good. All the busy in a good way :)

Really useful perspective. I’m extremely curious about this handheld… my experiences with switch are encouraging, but the weight and grip situation make me pause. I wish there was a real world place to try one :(
