The opening line from my newest short story "Breakfast with Jack" "She smiled. A saccharine smile that never reached her eyes, and leaked disappointment and a touch of pity as she led us to the table."

The Hugo nominations are underway, and many of the talented and accomplished writers I follow are seeking nominations. They should be. I am not seeking a nomination. I'd be pleased for just a few more people to read my short story "The Good Stuff" in the winter edition of:

Have you ever gone on a tirade about something you are 100% right about and firmly stand by the facts of the matter, then a day later realise... You shouldn't have. It sucks.

In Carter's World, Jason lets his parents down by becoming the focus of a political scandal and failing to complete his education. In Carter's World: MECH, he ghosts his friend for 10 years and refuses to help her when she asks, because he is wallowing in grief.

They either didn't know Iran would shut down the Strait of Hormuz or they knew and didn't have a plan. Either way - just totally clear they don't give a damn about what this war means for hardworking Americans.

I know it's a lost cause, but every time I read a story about how AI is doing this or doing that, I want to scream at the top of my lungs: IT IS NOT F*CKING AI It's an advanced algorithm utilizing a massive amount of data for statistical pattern matching. It is not F'ING INTELLIGENT!

Millionaires stopped paying into Social Security for the rest of 2026 today (3-9-26). Billionaires stopped paying in on January 1st. You're going to pay in for 298 more days. This makes zero sense. The wealthy should pay in all year like the rest of us. Scrap the cap. ~ Americans for Tax Fairness

My recommendation is The Faded Sun Trilogy by C. J. Cherryh. The Faded Sun: Kesrith (1978), The Faded Sun: Shon'jir (1978), The Faded Sun: Kutath (1979), An inspiring study of alien civilizations and how humans interact with them.

Those of us who lived through it are sick of it. Tax cuts didn't spur innovation or create jobs, the rich got richer. Military spending created forever wars and disastrous interventions, like Iran today. Slashing regulations created fraud and risk-taking destroying businesses and retirement plans.

A story that is not being told enough about the Iran War is that the U.S. and Israel have totally different, incompatible goals. The U.S. says it’s targeting weapons systems. Israel wants regime change and a failed state. This conflict leads to total incoherence.

It's only fair for another nation's leader to make up lies about our felon in chief like his does. Spain: "Trump says he'll only serve Tapas in the new ballroom" Canada: "Trump asks wear red mountie uniform" UK: "Trump asks for knighthood" France: "We have the Pee video in the Louvre"

I try not to get violently outraged, but it's difficult with this administration. So instead I verbalize it, mostly to my reps. There is so much, which I guess was the plan. For over 18 years I wrote/spoke to my reps about ending our forever wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, only to now do so again.

It wasn't "cancel culture" when women and people of color got used up, silenced, and dismissed before their careers even began. It only became "cancel culture" when powerful abusers started having established careers momentarily inconvenienced by revelations of what they'd done.

The Trump Administration is considering asking Congress for new emergency spending for the Iran War. Hell no. This is our chance to draw a line in the sand and use our power to stop this war before it kills more Americans and sends the Middle East into more chaos.

My grandfather was a groundskeeper, and then he delivered coal to homes and businesses. My father was a truck driver who delivered wings to the Navy shipyards for their planes and was prevented from enlisting in WWII because it was a reserved occupation. I am too old now to run for office.

Americans are dead. Prices are skyrocketing. The Middle East is on fire. Civil war is brewing in Iran. And for what? A war that will leave the same hardliners in charge? A war that can't actually destroy their nuclear program? This is incompetence. Plain and simple.

I prefer to write a story in order. I don't start until I have a loose outline and a solid ending in mind. People remember the ending, so it has to be satisfying. Since the outline is loose, new ideas can arise while working toward the ending that can change or enhance it.
