In a store, a stranger once helped me to my feet while I struggled to rise after tying my shoe. I was so embarrassed. While others walked past, he offered a hand and pulled me up without saying a word. I never forgot that.

So far, I have only published two short stories in magazines. The two dozen rejections were painless, being automated replies, and the very few with comments helped me improve. The cost to self publish properly is out of my reach so for anything longer I'll have to go traditional.

Called a friend. him: Hello. me: Hey, been a while. him: I haven't heard from you in ages. me: You don't answer your texts. * long pause him: I have a touch-tone phone. He's 15 years younger than me.

I know I shouldn't complain, considering how long I've had it, but my workhorse HP 1200 printer just died, and I'm bummed about it. New printer won't arrive until Monday.

We opened concentration camps in this country, many for profit, in full view of everyone. I thought babies in cages would be the red line, but no. Now we are killing people. I am so deeply ashamed of us.

I haven't scrolled today (busy) but this is the best news I've head in a while. The Felon in Chief was loudly booed at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The president’s motorcade passed signs that read “Nobody wants you here” and “Trump must go,” [...] from lower Manhattan up the FDR Drive"

Trump loudly booed at Madison Square Garden before Knicks-Spurs NBA finals game
Trump's decision to attend Game 3 of the NBA Final was controversial for Knicks fans, some of whom feared he would jinx what has been an epic playoff run.

I got about 6K words and an outline into a prequel for Carter's World. Then I learned how poorly written the first two Carter's World books are and dropped it to write other things. If I ever revise the first two books I might go back to it. Most likely I'll scavenge the ideas for something else.

I’m sure I didn’t agree with every view Terry Pratchett had, but in this he and I were perfectly aligned. The world is beautiful and amazing. Our existence is astonishing. Never, ever, let that slip out of sight. Always fight for it 🩶

I went for my first walk this year. Doctor advised. I won't embarrass myself by stating the distance, but I sort of overestimated my stamina and learned a few things. ▪️ Walking is overrated. ▪️ I'm not aging well. ▪️ I need to rewrite a scene I glossed over in the Old Man's Legacy.

I really liked "The Boroughs." Adults adulting in weird circumstances while smarmy condescending young people look exactly like they are. The story is fun and the acting fantastic.

The cost of war is high and never paid by those who start it. With WWII 25% of the nation was involved in the war effort, 9% for Vietnam and our 20 year war in the middle east less than 1% yet contractors made $billions while the rest of us can't pay for medical care, buy gas or food. it has to stop

As a nascent technology, LLMs can be useful for pattern recognition, but as a knowledge resource, they are deeply flawed. ChatGPT insisted Blueberry was spelled with 3 Bs, and now Gemini can't spell its parent's name, both without additional tweaking. The tech bros want us to rely on it. No way!

In chemistry, a supersaturated solution is one where you've kept adding a solute to a liquid beyond where the liquid can dissolve everything. All it takes is a nucleation site / seed crystal for the solution to rapidly (sometimes violently) crystalize. Unrelatedly, the US has more guns than people.
