It’s Read Across America Week & I celebrated by reading “Thank You, Omu” by Oge Mora to Ms. Perez’s class at Bentley this morning! Literacy is vital to a child’s success. #SalemMA has had 8% increase in Grades 3-8 ELA achievement, but always more to do to ensure every student is a lifelong reader!

Today #SalemMA was awarded a $12.1M grant to relocate the Willow Ave sewer pipe, a long-standing hazard in #SalemMA. While the City has taken steps to improve the integrity of the pipe, the fact that a sewer pipe moving up to 2M gallons of untreated sewage daily crosses our harbor surface is a risk.

182 years ago today the Dominican Republic declared independence. Today, we raised the flag of the DR and celebrated the occasion. The history and heritage of the DR is one of resilience and strength, and the people of the DR demonstrate that every day, here in #SalemMA and throughout the world.
