Divergence in diversity: why womenâs health matters
This yearâs International Womenâs Day unfolds amid geopolitical upheaval and democratic backsliding, as fundamental rights across Europe and beyond face renewed contestation. In this climate, equality is tested not only in rhetoric but even more so in policy - in decisions affecting healthcare, bodily autonomy, and access to services. As the European Commission enters the second half of its current mandate, discussions on the future of womenâs health have moved higher on the agenda, reflected in the Roadmap for Womenâs Rights and calls for a Gender Equality Strategy 2026â2030. While this is undoubtedly positive news, in an era of democratic decline and polarisation, recognition alone is insufficient. It is exactly for this reason that this yearâs compendium places womenâs health at its centre.
