Gljúfrabúi or "the one that lives in the gorge". A waterfall hidden by it's own gorge.

Skógafoss on a rainy day. In addition to being an iconic waterfall it is the farthest downstream of 5 or 6 fairly impressive waterfalls on the Skóga river. If you have a chance to visit, I suggest taking some time to walk along the river and see the additional waterfalls.

Svartifoss in Vatnajökull National Park in Iceland. Because of the island's volcanic history there is lots of columnar basalt, which is quite visible at this waterfall.

This is the drowning pool at Þingvellir. Þingvellir is where Iceland's parliament met from 930 through 1798. The drowning pool was the execution site for women (men were beheaded).

Gullfoss, one of the most popular tourist sites in Iceland. In nearly any other country this would have been converted to hydropower. In Iceland the attempt to convert it to hydropower launched the environmental movement.

Geyser. As in, the geothermal feature that all the other ones are named after.

Búðakirkja taken using an IR Chrime filter. This is a historic church in a lava field. I think the parish was estabilished over 300 years ago, and the current building is from the middle of the 19th century.

Two very different shots of Hraunfossar (magma or lava waterfalls) from our recent trip to iceland. The dark one is taken against the sun and was edited to emphasize the water (and waterfalls). The wide, flat one, is a panorama taken with the sun.

Just came back from a trip to Iceland. The highlight of the trip was the Ingólfshöfði Puffin Tour. The guide is a photographer who owns a farm in the area. In addition to a guided tour to a puffin colony, we learned about the history of the area heard about his experience with these charming birds.

One last composite of Forky This one is 25 shots overlayed at 33%. Forky was flying into the wind and therefore not really making much forward progress.

Another composite of Forky. For those that didn't see the previous post, there is a fork-tailed flycatcher over on Randall's Island. It is supposed ot be in much farther south.

This afternoon a blackburnian warbler was hunting near a bunch of photographers in Central Park. I think we all agreed to post a shot today... so here's mine.

My first attempt at capturing star trails. This was taken over the course of an hour. I'm not sure what caused the ripple effect in the clouds, and boats & planes in the city make it a bit chaotic.
