NEW: Democratic Rep. Jared Golden's office signals he is a yes on the Senate CR despite widespread opposition from his party. His "position on using a government shutdown as a legislative strategy has been clear and has not changed," his spokesperson says.

Jeffries, on a call with the House Democratic caucus, is urging members to keep the focus of the shutdown fight on health care, not "a few individuals in the Senate," per three lawmakers on the call.

Jeffries: "I'm not gonna explain what a handful of Senate Democrats have decided to do. That's their explanation to offer to the American people."

A good window into how Jeffries is framing this: In response to a question about the 8 Senate Dems who voted to advance the deal, he said in part "the overwhelming majority of Senate Democrats, led by Chuck Schumer, have waged a valiant fight over the last seven weeks."

Jeffries, asked if he thinks Schumer is effective and should keep his job: "Yes and yes."
