Helping Local 80 again. Good times!

Taught some Local 80 Grips and Hollywood CPR students basic lighting and then had them try to recreate some frames from “Tár.” Not bad for their first time! Donnie and Nina were too kind and sat in for the students.

Thought I posted this yesterday: ≈’99/2000 and I was loading for two cameras on an underbudgeted behemoth of a Kid Rock music video. High speed all day and the mags we were using had razor sharp gears as they were brand new. Sliced both my thumbs loading as fast as I could go.

It’s nice that the city government recognizes the importance of keeping the film business going in Southern California. Honored to have helped out with Local 80.

So grateful to have been asked to help the Grip brethren at Local 80 with their training program. They even asked me to run my mouth about the program and the need for diversity in Hollywood and the importance of California state support for the industry.

Wonderful things are afoot.

Was stoked to teach a class at Local 80 on lighting today. I’m not a fan of speaking in front of crowds but we do what we must to be of service. My boss sent me this photo after wrap and wrote, “This is the leader I see.” Grateful to be out here teaching and lighting and keeping the flame burning.

I’m going to be documenting this on July 3rd. Grab a ticket and come say hi while I’m working. It’s going to be fabulously fun.

Just rewatched Emerica’s “Stay Gold” (2010) video and realized I had purged Jerry Hsu’s opening slams from my memory. My gawd, that man is made of pain.

Bought an APS-C 25mm lens from TTArtisan lenses out of Japan because it’s super inexpensive, small, and well made. Love it. Been shooting with it on a full format camera and loving the results. Here’s a pic I didn’t extract because I like it just the way it is. “planet vasquez”

“Can’t Swat A Swarm” by Immortal Nightbody. Shot and edited this all by myself in my own home. Working with less really makes you appreciate when you have more and keeps you humble.

Bought a new lens and made some impromptu portraits of my lovely wife. She had come in from work and sat on the couch in front of our bay window and the light was perfect.
