Standing on a deserted street in Waterford with about ten others waiting for the green pedestrian light, I realise sadly, that the great Irish tradition of jaywalking is disappearing.

On this day 61 years ago, my tearful mother came into my room. ‘Kneel down and say a prayer for President Kennedy, he died this afternoon.’ I can see her still.
