This painting is one from a couple months ago that I real like. I love experimenting with contrast and color values and this had some nice things going in that realm. It’s also an expressive portrait which I don’t think I can always accomplish.

I’m currently going through a phase where I like to try to reproduce the same portrait using oil paint and then again using pencil. Sometimes, I’m able to get them fairly close - like with this red haired girl portrait. But other instances, the portraits somehow end up diverging.

I’ve been painting for about a year now, and in that time I’ve done about 155 portraits. I want to start sharing some art here, but where to start? I’m not going to try to go all the way back, but I will start with a few slightly older oil paintings. Here’s one of my favorites:
