Highly recommend this piece to writers, publishing people and anyone interested in how books are made (and why they're rejected).

Absolutely proving my point that it's hard to find Black British (and other minority) authors, here's an article by one of the writers
@jackpbrown.bsky.social
I didn't find when scouring the internet for Black Brit fantasy π Discoverability is a big part of becoming successful.

I think it's just as important to indict Palmer here. Gaiman's face may be on it (and he's a fucking monster), but she kept putting new chickens in the coop. The messages shared imply both of them were grooming, love bombing and gaslighting these women, who were kept in poverty by design.

Not comprehensive and still very much a work in progress, but I have begun building a user list of Black Romance Writers (which can also be pinned as a feed).

That episode of Dandadan was stunning. I wasn't expecting to cry at this silly show, but that backstory really was something else.

If you're going to YALC this weekend, be on the lookout for ARCs of THE REAPER at the Del Rey table - there'll be a few copies there and this is what they look like in the wild ππΎ

Okay I've deleted Threads. That place is a no-go for me. I'll give twitter a lil while but I'll probably just lock it after the cover reveal for THE REAPER.

One annoying thing about being a debut author is having to wade through countless predatory marketing start ups that exploit your need for exposure and constantly promise "getting your book out there" for a fee.

Hi! So I'm L, I do a lot in SFF and one of those things I do is run the Ignyte Awards. We're a spec lit award centering the perspectives/contributions of BIPOC in genre. We came about because existing legacy institutions sustain(ed) practices disrespectful or exclusionary of marginalized creators.

Finally watched Across the Spider-Verse. Man what a great watch. Hobie has my heart! Was in the film for like 5 mins and totally stole the show. The character writing of the whole film is study-worthy.

This is horrific and not getting nearly enough attention - >90% of >2,000 killed in an Afghan earthquake last weekend were women and young kids in their homes. Older kids now left without their prime caregivers. Many victims thought the quake was a bomb and ran inside π°

Worried about this Black Swordsman animation. Was excited at first then I found out its run by the AnR crew, who seem to feel their vision as fans of AOT take precedent over what's been written by the author. With that kind of ego I can't trust that they'll humbly stay faithful to Miura's art.

I've never checked out of any movie -- hell, any FRANCHISE -- faster in all my life. Whole trilogy was a mess of catastrophic fumbles but that last entry was like a grand scale fanfiction that imploded on itself.

Okay I've been behind on my reading but I managed to read these two kinda problematic BL series and they were really intriguing. Unconventional and unromantic but they tackle that weird obsessive love. Beautifully drawn, too.
